Mainly because I didn't fit in here bor on the RC forum. Posting didn't bring me the fulfilment it did back in the dayd of SOT. I felt people were ignoring me and not giving me the attention I deserved but I am back to take this site forward.

well there is something of a 'credibility' divide in the melodic death discussion among people who would give more respect to a band like At the Gates which would be more obviously "death metal that is very melodic" versus something like Kalmah or Children of Bodom which would be accused of being more just "melodic metal with death vocals" so 'melo death' is a bit of a pejorative

i dont know if i personally care much/subscribe to this theory but i think that's the general essense of it

Black: Emperor...as if anything else comes close
Classic: Pink Floyd
Hard rock: Alice in Chains
Doom/Melancholic: (all types) Pallbearer, The Atlas Moth, Enfold, old Anathema, old My Dying Bride, Cathedral, Sahg, Horn of the Rhino, and a ton more that I can't think of right now.
Ambient/Experimental: Ulver, Trifonic, lots of stuff people do independently that will never be released
