Soilwork

I was a huge fan back in the PP and NBC days - and the last few cd's were an awful slide backwards for the band, no doubt. I've been listening to the new cd for a week now and it isn't bad....it's certainly not on par with NBC, but it has some decent moments. I think one of the big obstacles they have is trying to overcome NBC - that cd had such great production and guitar playing and everything they have done since is inevitably compared to it. I think the drummer is the highlight of this release - Dirk Verbeuren did a great job on WD's cd, and he is solid on this one as well. The song "Epitome" at the start of this thread is a little weak - but his drumming saves it in my opinion.

Calling them the worst band ever seems a little short-sighted. Maybe they haven't been able to live up to the monster they created with NBC, but they are still a good melodic metal band. If you think posers like Bullet for My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park, etc are better - there is no point in arguing over it, you just hate them and won't like anything they ever do.

I said one of the worst ever. Certainly there are worst bands. Their entire catalog does nothing for me, and the couple times I've seen them live I was practically fidgeting with boredom.

I used to LOVE them, but they lost me when they released Figure Number Five. They actually *kinda* lost me with natural Born Chaos, but I actually like that album. (I still consider its cover to be one of the best album covers in metal, btw)

Great band, too bad they went gay.

My friend Mike famously threw Figure Number Five out his car window moments after buying it. We still laugh about that.

I'm with Karen, they completely lost me with FNF, after the slight eyebrow raising they game me with NBC.
I have no interest whatsoever in candy-coated metal.

Shame too, since Chainheart Machine and Predator's Portrait were two of my favorite metal records of that time.

Fuck Soilwork.
