Well, I've been thinking about upgrading out of my old SS amp to a better one, and desert the idea of tube because they are more expensive and MJR doesn't use them, and he has great tone.

I am looking at either Crate or Randall heads. If anyone has had experience with either of these brands for SS heads then please reply.

I'm in love with my Line 6 Spider 2. It doesn't get much more solid than that, aside from the HD75, or the Vetta 2. But those burn a hole in your pocket the size (and shape on occasion) of Utah, and cost mad money. The Spider costs like 400 and has to be one of the most flexible amps I've ever used, and owned.

I'm a huge Line6 advocate. I think the model you're thinking of is the HD147, thats the one I have, and I tracked all of Distant Tides with it, going direct. The HD75 is part of the Spider II line.

I did also recently purchase two 1x12 Spiders for the music store I teach out of. Great little combos and quite a value for the money (only $200 and you can easily rehearse or do small gigs with it).

haha, wow man, if MJR dont use tube heads then you should not either, .
 :loco:  wow. no comment.

Crate makes fairly decent solid state stuff for the price, so does Peavy. If you want tube, I'd go Marshall. These are of course just my preferences, and I also think tube is better, but not because someone famous uses it ;)

As for Line6, I've always felt they sounded too digital.

Lol, yeah, the HD75 is what I have! I always mix those two up. The HD147 is just amazing though. Too bad they don't keep one on the floor at Guitar Center anymore. Line 6's are just awesome amps in general.

I'm Personaly a die hard marshall fan.

I do agree wih the others here though. Tube is the way to go. Save your money and buy a nice amp, you wont regret it.

The truth is that I have always hated tube distortion. It sounds gritty and not clean like I could get with a $90 Digitech. That's just ,my distortion preference, because I haven't heard any great distortion from an amp. Though tubes do have a better sound, its not so significant that your gonna sound like crap with a good SS. People will know if your a good guitarist by your guitar playing more than how perfectly clean your amp sounds. SS will do for me, at least for now. The price is much higher for tube, and I am still in high school, so I don't really have that type of money. I am not against anyone in this forum, I am just stating my opinion. Thank you for the advice.

Nothing beats the Uber distortion of the Line 6 Uber Metal pedal. I dont actually have one, but my faith forever lies now in Line 6 equipment.

I was playing on a Flextone III yesterday and it was by far the worst, most stale sounding amp I have ever heard in my life, and I did play around with the settings (I own a POD so i know my way around the contols) My POD sounds like 100000x better thru my power amp, EQ and a BBE and legacy 2x12, and all of that cost less than that flexIII..Its funny too cause my buddy owns the origional Flextone II 2x12 combo and it rips, and even has enough bottom end for his 7 string..

to tell the truth i have only played on a line 6 once.

Know any note worthy guitarists that use them?
i really hope you're joking. not that you don't know a famous artist who uses them, but that you actually care to form your opinion around it. :loco:
