Dude, you gotta understand my parents think that music affects people's thinking (I disagree with them on that), I've been listening to RATM for awhile and I haven't turned socialist yet ;). But they're still my parents and I respect them.

that's awesome man. i'm a christian too, and i don't agree with the lyrics of the bands i like or their lifestyle. it just so happens that they are the best musicians! and while i sometimes sing lyrics because they go with the music, i don't sing the Satanic or evil lyrics. the only problem is if you let it influence you, or you start seeing satanic things as being cool. as a christian you have to be careful not to become trapped by the metal lifestyle. as a guitar player i can appreciate COB and other bands that have a different outlook on life.

but as far as the music goes metal rules! i can understand where your parents are coming from, they probably don't like metal music. most parents that ban metal actually listened to stuff in the sixties that had rebellious and drug related content. as long as your listening to it for the music. yeah the second track on hate crew deathroll has the lead singer say 666! twice...hey also on the insert booklet to Hatecrew Deathroll, alexi is wearing a shirt that says "smoke crack and worship satan" kind of a joke, but indicates his rebellious outlook, and im sure your parents wouldnt approve! oh well i got a Dimmu Borgir Cd and it has a bunch of blasphemous stuff. i would just throw the booklets away and enjoy the music.

some people disagree whether christians should support metal music by buying their cd's and therefore giving them more money to continue their lifestyle...also you listening to satanic stuff, could give non-christians a bad outlook at christians..." if your a christian why do you listen to satan music"...so you have to be careful about influencing people....again as long as it is the best music, and i play guitar that is the only desire driving me to buy it...so that is my view. i would get follow the reaper, because it doesnt have hate in the title like hatebreeder, and HCDR has the picture of alexi...i would get them anyway though and just throw away the booklets if your parents have a problem with it. if they do have a problem with it, just don't buy it. maybe you can download it, or something. but in the long run, things of this world mean nothing. obey your parents, cuz it is God that should be the focus of your life. and doing His Will. we are in the world, but not of it. nice to see a fellow christian. good luck with the music. :hotjump:

im 15 and parents dont like what i listen to, but they know that trying to censor me from it will do more than actually listening to it. plus my dad is a guitarist, so he can appreciate what i listen to for the musicianship :headbang:

But why stopping yourself from enjoying kick-ass music and helping CoB making killer albums by buying their stuff only cause of a non-conform word or t-shirt? I just don't get this point of throwing the booklet away and closing your eyes on something that MAY change your mind... Non sense principle to me. That way ; you block yourself from evolving in thoughts only cause of narrow-minded beliefs. I don't say : listening to CoB lyrics = being a son a satan..not at all. Cause the lyrics are not that satanic...just expressed with dark feelings. Like we all do sometimes...

Give the kid a fucking break, or at least stop speaking for the rest of us. It's not anyone else's music than the band's. He's came here with a problem, asking for our advise, not your judgement.

As it turns out, my parents won't let me get CoB, guess I'll have to wait till college. I respect their decision, but I don't agree with it (they said they thought the ppl from columbine listened to this type of music).

If they liked metal they'd prolly be more lenient. They didnt exactly love the vocals of CoB ;).

Oh and I can't stand Creed. Don't call me a frail-minded kid or whatever. My parents mean well, but I don't agree with them.

I came here asking for advice. All I get is f'ed out. Thx loads.

Hopfully I can find some alternate clean death metal groups.

BAsically dude, it all boils down to trust and respect, man, you respect your parents (As do i, mine kick ass) But its a two way thing man, they obviously dont trust you and believe enough in you as they obvously think you're gonna become the son ofg lucifer because one or two songs on a CD Full of music you enjoy.

Thats a bit unfair man, if they were openminded and realised that music is for enjoyment and not to send people to hell, you'd be happier and maybe we'd have another kick ass bodom fan around these boards, who knows.
Man, dont take the "hate" "death" lyrical content seriously. I;ve met the guys and they some some of the nicest and most laid back guys ever.

I do think he was not very willing to fight for his own view and music. I don't say he doesn't deserve CoB, but he will probably never become a fan. He does lack some spine. Forget the whole thing.

Go listen to Extol or Mortification and praise your pathetic god. Your parents don't mean well, they mean spitting out lies, and you're eating it up. Sickens me that no one can open their eyes and realize all the hypocrisy they believe in, or forced to believe. Screw organized religion.
 
Im kind of a christian and i listen to all of the death metal stuff, satanic or not. I listen to whatever i want because i feel like i shouldnt limit myself to only listen to the shitty music that the christian bands put out. It all sucks. Im 16 too and i say just listen to whatever you want. I still screamed the 666 POUNDER part at the concert, doesnt mean im a satan worshipper or that i do all of that other "satanic" stuff, i just listen to the music. If you dont feel right listening to music with angry lyrics, than dont. I remember way back when i first got into music, that i didnt listen to anything that refered to satanic things, but now i listen to the most extreme of lyrics. CoBs lyrics arent satanic anyway, just buy the cd, its excellent music.
