Ok chaps the hour grows near. At the end of March I get my payout of some £600. So I’ve made my shortlist and am off on Monday to try out the following.

POD XT – with Metal Pack
Rocktron Profesy
Rocktron Chameleon
Behringer V Amp Prp
Boss GT8 (Rackmount version)
Spider Valve Head

Are there any other ones you can add to list that are worth trying?

I'm actually looking into getting the Spider Valve Head... I own a hd147 and I checked it out at the GC... it sounds pretty good, i think... for a Line6... I think it might sound better than the hd147... I'll have to plug them in side by side and test...

If I could fit my 5150 and cab in my studio, I would only record with it, but can't fit the bugger in.

Don't know what he was doing but...

As much as I love Satch, he needs to rerecord everything he did with that abomination and use a real cab... or at least impulses... just sounds fake. Also, see the Slipperman audio clips concerning the Palmer.

I've built similar things myself and there is really no good way to pull them off with high gain.

Ah, cmon the Pod is great when you plug it into your stereo, so easy to use and neighbor-friendly!! And sounds decent, no real latency!

The price for shipping outside of the UK would be too much for it to be worth doing, we get insanely cheap domestic shipping at the expense of a high premium on international.

I will always look into it though.
