Figured I may as well post these. It's all still work-in-progress but the control room is now finished. This was all built in a large industrial unit in Nottingham. We've already built 2 rehearsal rooms, 1 for recording and casual rehearsal use. The other which is private-hired to 2 bands.

Here is the control room, with the newly built console desk shoved to one side while I finish installing the wiring:

Here it is, in it's proper place:

Finishing off the rear bass traps. These are simple panels made using high-density mineral wool. This stuff is super-dense compared to regular rockwool. It's like handling chunks of wood.

Corner traps finished, and new sofa in place. The sofa was free, a local furniture shop was throwing it away so I grabbed it.:headbang:

An external show of what will be our live room. This is getting the major soundproofing treatment with triple layer gypsum walls, green glue, lead lines doors etc. We plan on using it as extra practice space outside of recording sessions and need it to be as tight as possible to avoid annoying any other business in the building (many of whom make 10x more noise than us anyway!)

A shot of the inside from a week or so ago, all the interior plasterboard is in place now:

This is a panoramic shot of our main rehearsal room which also doubles up as a recording room. (we have a stagebox installed here as well). We recorded our first band in here last weekend and were very happy with the results! We didn't know what it would sound like acoustically on recording but it's actually an awesome drum room! It has just the right amount of ambiance.

Anyways, we have more images from a proper camera but I haven't transferred them to PC yet. Hopefully a longer post will be forthcoming when work is finished. :)

looks really cool! this is in your house? what kind of desk is that?

Hah not quite. It's in an old industrial building which has been cut up into seperate units. Many of which are privately hired by other bands as well as one gym, a couple of photographers and a few light engineering shops. After 6pm or at weekends this place is pretty much filled with noise from band practices. Fortunately most of them are confined to the other wing of the building so we don't get much spill into our section.

The desk is a Soundtracs PC MIDI console. It's about 25 years old. The mic pre's beat just about everything you could buy for a similar price nowadays. And the EQ's are top notch as well.

Pfff. We have a pair of red office chairs I found on a rubbish pile, you sayin' that's not good enough? :headbang:

Money-wise we're doing well to keep it afloat. The plan was always to finance the studio with income from the rehearsal rooms and so far thats working out for us. Had a few setbacks though, we were robbed of over £500 a while ago due to carelessness on the part of one band we rent a room to.

Here's a couple more pics from a session this weekend gone, a band named Deny The Charge which we part rent our second rehearsal room to.

Drums all mic'd up:

Guitar amp setup. Mmmm rectifier goodness:

I forgot to take a snap of the bass rig but it was a Fender USA Jazz Bass into an Ampeg SVT 6 through an Ampeg 8x10" cab. None of this gear other than the drums actually belongs to the band we recorded, but we have an arrangement with the band they share their room with that we give them cheap recording time in exchange for using their top-shelf gear if we need it. :p

This is a track from the first session since getting our new control room running, an old-school pop punk band called The Frontline. Came out pretty good, although our maind rehearsal room is a bit big for vocal tracking unless we build some portable absorber panels.
