Yeah you can sometimes tell what a band is probably going to sound like and safely pass them up, but you can't write them off until hearing them. Gotta go by the music man, the music.

What's the point when the name tells you they're going to play music you won't enjoy? Would you do the same thing with Power Metal bands?

Pass them up because you're pretty sure it ain't yo' thang, sure. I just don't like it when people say "nah they suck" and they haven't even heard them.

That's my best attempt to avoid that zing you just tossed my way anyhow. :Spin:

What's sneaky is when nu/mall/-core bands use traditional metal sounding names and artwork (obviously also pushed along by the metal labels now stuck with them with no OzzFest to backhand their way into).

I've had some promos come my way that look like pagan medieval celtic metal with a fucking old cemetary statue or tree on a hill or castle on a cliff, and then you read the press-release and it says "influenced by hardcore acts blah blah and taking the next step from At the Gates while sticking firmly to their buttplug roots in NY punk...".

It's like the junk mail you get that's been made to look like it's of some importance or private matter....but just turns out to be some mortgage poacher or credit card company. Bastards. :loco:

I paid $5.00 to get off the direct mail marketing list about a year ago, best $5.00 I ever spent.

Good idea. And since I've off loaded all promos to PJ, it would be nice to not get any more junk in the mail.
