Along with doing the tourist thing (Aquarium/ World Of Coca Cola, CNN Tour, MLK Museum) I would also like to get a taste of some real southern comfort food. The Vortex and Eats is already on the list. What I am looking for is a place that is maybe family owned and feels like your mom is making it. I've seen places like that on the Food Channel that are in Atlanta but cannot recall the names.

if it was on Food Network then it was probably Mathew's Cafeteria in Tucker, it's home style cooking but don't expect to get knocked out of your socks or anything. The menu changes daily.

Also you can try Fox Bros BBQ near little five, it's Texas style BBQ I think, and the ribs have a rub crust that's caramelized. I have a weird sensibility when it comes to BBQ, I can't really say which is the best in town, I've tried them all at least once(Fat mat and the like). This place has fried pickles and jalapeno slices though and portions are huge but it is also pricey for those huge portions.

The Highlander is my favorite place to eat in town though, it's consistently awesome wether you get a burger or fish 'n chips. I like their fish 'n chips better than O'terrils irish pub which is raved about allot, as a matter of fact. Their Fish 'n chips are better than the Pub at Peachtree Center mall as well.

I don't know if they do the brunch menu thing on Saturdays, but Apres Diem near The Highlander has an awesome Eggs Benedict over a crab cake.

As you fly in and out of Atlanta there is Pascals at the food court in the airport. I always eat there on fly-out day. Pork Chops, fried okra, blackeyed pears, greens and cornbread

I remember eating at the Silver Skillet restaurant next to the Marriott Courtyard hotel on 14th street last year. Steve and I stayed at the Courtyard and found that the Silver Skillet (only a 2 minute walk from the hotel) offered a better and cheaper breakfast than the Courtyard.

It was also fun to see a couple of bands who played at PP USA go there for some good ole Southern cooking! I bet it was the first time some of these Europeans ate grits!

The Silver Skillet has been on Food Network (Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives) before. They also have a website if you want to check them out! :)

I might go there again if Steve can get his butt out of bed!
