Its probably a combo of the superfluous phlegm caused by a demanding vocal style(screaming). I think ego plays its role. I get the impression the :artist" thinks they are cool a lot of the time by doing this.

nah... its not an ego thing with Alexi. I hung out with him on the COB bus when they were on tour nevermore and hypocrisy not to long ago. hes a really down to earth guy, very friendly. Its def not an ego thing.
