Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

Did anyone else think that General Grievous sounded like Dark Helmet?

Yes, I found that very interesting as well. Not knowing what the background of General Grievous' character was, I found myself thinking how lame it was for a droid to be hacking, coughing and wheezing so much for the first half of the movie. I was like, "ugh!! how contrived!" But once I realized (courtesy of Obi-Wann) that Grevious contained organic components (namely a heart and facial features) I realized it wasn't as contrived as I thought and actually added to the mystery and depth of his character. The parallels between Grievous and Vader are pretty cool.

Yeah when he coughed I thought WTF? but saw an esophagus of sorts, then eyes, then obviously the heart thing. It would be interesting to learn who or what the hell he is. Besides the overtly lame name that is. :dopey:

I'll see RotS again when it's on DVD this winter, but I'll just skip past the first 30 minutes. :D

Didn't you at least think that the Anakin/Dooku scene was cool? I admit the elevator scene was lame, as was the dialogue throughout the opening sequences, but I did really enjoy that scene, the introduction of Grievous, along with some elements of the opening part (the effects were absolutely spectacular). Not nearly as solid as the final two-thirds of the movie for sure, but I didn't find those sequences to be quite as much of an abomination as you did.

And yes, I would put the movie right up there with Episodes IV and V. If I HAD to rank the movies, it would be like this:

Episode V
Episode III
Episode IV
Episode VI (this may contain the greatest scene of them all though in the final duel between Luke and Anakin)
Episode II
Episode I

Would Darth Grievous have been better? :loco:
hahaha

About the movie starting slow, come on, you can't complain about that in light of the original trilogy. Blah blah ship, blah blah desert, "But I was going to go to the Tosche Station and pick up power converters!"[/whine], blah blah old man, okay FINALLY, Mos Eisley. I'm playing devil's advocate, I love the beginning of IV as well as III, even the elevator scene was cool.

III definitely stands alongside the original trilogy. I don't know if it's better than any of them (screw all you Jedi haters! :loco: ), but it is at least as good as them.

I pretty much agree with you. And I don't hate Jedi, but I do hate the Ewoks. The Ewoks almost ruined the movie for me. In my rankings, there's a HUGE drop off between Episodes VI and II.

Who said anything about it starting slow? I said it started shit. :tickled:

No, it was over too quick. Dooku was worthy of much more.

Yep, that's pretty much it. Plus R/2 spraying oil everywhere, and then flying off. R/2 units should never, ever have jet packs on their feet. That is for the 4 year olds and Ewok lovers.

the introduction of Grievous,

See, I knew he was going to have 4 arms before I saw the movie. I therefore hoped his duel with Obi Wan would be breathtaking, but instead it was just choreographed badly. Unlike Darth Maul, with the double ended lightsabre and phenomenal 3 way duel in The Phantom Menace, Grievous was just defeated way too easily.

I would have cut that utterly diabolical chase sequence and replaced it with an awe-inspiring duel of mammoth proportions, accompanied by John Williams haunting choirs. The chase on the lizard looked like a Sunday morning cartoon. The CGI of the lizard looked so comical, it made those reptilian creatures at the end of Attack of the Clones look good.

Plus Grievous coughing without lungs or any breathing apparatus was a flaw.

along with some elements of the opening part (the effects were absolutely spectacular).

Again, I thought the CGI was overdone and comical. Lots of bright yellow spaceships and orange explosions, it's just not dark enough. The dogfights should be blackened, just as they were when the rebels fled from Hoth, or the ultimate showdown at the end of Jedi.

Compare space battles: The "It's a trap!" sequence of Return of the Jedi, or the opening of Sith. See where I'm getting at? Just poor choices.

Not nearly as solid as the final two-thirds of the movie for sure, but I didn't find those sequences to be quite as much of an abomination as you did.

Not really an abomination as such, just a reminder of Menace and Clones. All cutesy and Jake Lloyd like. I hope the kid ends up on crack.

Episode V
Episode III
Episode IV
Episode VI (this may contain the greatest scene of them all though in the final duel between Luke and Anakin)
Episode II
Episode I

Here we go:

Episode V (10/10)
Episode IV (9.5/10)
Episode VI (8.5/10) -- yes, remove the Ewoks and Chewbacca swinging on a vine like Tarzan and I might up the score by 0.5
Episode III (7.5/10)
Episode II (5/10)
Episode I (2/10) -- take out the duel with Darth Maul and you're left with a turd, in fact I'd rather see Catwoman

Picky bastard. :tickled:

Blame it on a life of reviewing shitty promos. :loco:

I'll rank them:

1. III
1. IV
1. V
1. VI
5. II
28,916,842. I

That is brilliant. :tickled:

Honestly though, in a nutshell, episode III is very, very good -- if you took out the flawed opening half hour, I'd rank it alongside episode VI (probably).

"Even worse are the idiots who scarf down these sub-childish morsels of comedic relief, playing into Lucas' shallow theatrics so easily that you could sell these people hookers in a vagina storm."

The comedic relief is such a disaster. Watching episode IV where Mos Eisely was once a desolate "truckers stop" in the middle of the desert, and he turned it into a mini-metropolis on the DVD edition, with Java's falling off the backs of 'camels' and swinging on the reigns going, "wheeeee"!. :puke:

Yeah but the original trilogy had plenty of comic relief! R2D2's "voice" (especially in Degobah), Yoda fighting R2D2, the little quips by C3P0, and the best of all, in one of the most dramatic Star Wars scenes ever right before Solo is put into carbonite:

Leia: "I love you."
Han: "I know."

 x092850o243uo8u4oiwrltjoiu420984219084124018u420opi

Yeah yeah, there were loads of stupid bits, like those ratdroids on wheels running around the deathstar and Chewbacca roars at one and it squeaks off. I'm just saying, why ADD more crappy humoUr? :loco:

Yoda muppet > Yoda CGI

Yoda fighting Dooku = one of the dumbest things put to film

Yeah Yoda fighting Dooku was pretty stupid (although fun to watch), but for whatever reason I found all his fighting in Sith completely believable. Don't know why.

Muppets > real actors >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> CGI
