I do agree that using harsh vocals is a bit overrated. Most just sound so similiar to each other - they got the stereotype vocals of the genre that their band play. I can only imagine a metal band starting, while one of their conversations goes like this:

Guitarist: ''Hey, so now that we're together we still need a vocalist.''
Drummer: ''Since we all can't sing, what to do? I don't want to spend a lot of time on searching for a vocalist''
Bass guitarist: ''Ah well, let me handle the vocals then. Atleast I can growl.''
