Hi guys, I need to buy new desk for my studio....can you tell me some productors name for that things?
Thanks!!

The RTA Producer Station is awesome. It's got tons of rack space (40 spaces total), super durable, locking casters, cd rack(16 space), and comes in cherry... what more could a man need?

fornication+furniture=forniture? What, exactly, are you planning on doing to do to these items?

RTA desks work, but definitely aren't the most robust or solid desks on the market. Not to mention that monitor shelf puts the screen way too high on most of their desks.

I'd just grab an Ikea desk and some speaker stands, in all honesty.

That's what made me not to pick up one even though I was almost clicking the check-out button already...

...and actually did exactly that :)

Quik-Lok Z-250!! Both me and my housemate have one, and we love 'em! The upper shelf is at a perfect height (and is wide enough) for monitors.

EDIT: Here's a pic of mine (ignore the shitty creative computer speakers, they'll finally be replaced come XMAS :erk: )

sup? :D
If your handy,,,you could always build one. i made a clone form this Omnirax desk for my D8B.
http://www.omnirax.com/index.php/DisplayCategory/0-123

I just used the picture for the The MixStation / MAK24.8 as my guide.
its made up of the 2 side racks and shelves for the center so i can move it pretty easy if i need to take it out of the room. they are all virtually the same but the center measurements are different to accommodate the different mixers, and some have the nice wood on the sides, but you can add that later if you want.

Omnirax direct cost....$1417.50 + shipping(list $2025.00)

my total cost $114 + 4 nights after work.

When I built the desk, i sooooo wanted to use the really nice birch they had, and stain it,,,but,,, I was pretty strapped for cash and IIRC I only had like 130 in cash on me so I had to go with 5/8 particle board, same thing they use but without the black melamine covering.

The only thing cheaper was the OSB waffer board, and i damn sure didn't want to use that, so particle board it was. I used my air brad nailer(you can also use screws ) and some good wood glue, and it is sturdy as a rock, I think it could survive a fall off a truck.

If I may suggest,,If you go this route,,,get some large pieces of cardboard, to lay out your sides, cut it out and stand it up next to you and you can check if you like the angle of everything, and can get a sense of what you got going on. I made 3 before i got it just how I wanted tailored to me. Then transfer your pattern to the wood and even if your not gonna make yours with 2 side racks (4 patterns) gang cut your wood for a identical set. I just put 3 2" brad nails through the 4 pieces of wood and cut all the sides at once then just pried them apart when i was done. Once i had it all assembled I took it apart then painted and reassembled it.

When i built my mixing room in the house, I eventually cut the top racks down to 4 spaces(from 8)as have my JBL's soffit mounted and racks were just to high and I didn't want them to interfere with the sound , and before that I had also cut holes in the back splashes(the one side is real sloppy in the pic but is nice and neat now) to Allow for wiring of whatever i needed to put there, in this case a Roland SI-24 on the left and my Dr-5 on the right, which had started off the other way around till i found it easier to work with the SI-24 on my left.

Moshwits that is fucking killer man! This is EXACTLY the same idea I had a while back. I have like 300+ pictures of studio desks right now that I had saved and sifted through a gazillion times before I had a list of similar desks that fit my criteria. Then narrowed it down from there and ended up wanting a particular design. Now I just need to measure and calculate my costs so I can save up to get the materials.

Making your own is awesome, I can't wait. About how long did the project take you? What kind of schedule were you working on as well... Overall cost?

can you post the blueprints for that please

Sup?
There were no blueprints,,Like I was saying, I just Studied the picture,
Omnirax-Music-MixStationMAK248.jpg

and came to the conclusion it was basically two side units and shelves between them..(and a cool thing about it being built this way is that if you change mixers you just build a different size shelf).. so I got some approximate measurements from the specs, then sketched the shape of the side unit,, and tailored it to what i wanted.
and went from there.

for instance..the Omnirax has the mixer all the way to the armrest.....I wanted it to be just a little deeper front to back so i could have my 2 keyboards( 1 DAW, 1 for the D8B) on top and not on the sliding shelf underneath, as i usually have other stuff on there and didn't want to have to keep opening and closing the thing just to use the keyboard,,and i also wanted a little arm room on top and have room for the 2 mice.

as a result mine has 7 sloping rack spaces on each side whereas theirs only has 5.

I also put a platform underneath to put the computers.

Theirs has a little strip of wood in the top rack,, mine has a whole shelf so i wouldn't have to rely on the rack ears to hold the gear up, they just sit on the shelf. AND,,you don't have to buy the metal rack rails to go in it,,like for the sloped racks in the side units where the racks just hang,,I used a strip of 1x4( which is really a 1 3/4 X 3 1/2) cut down the center(1x2) which is prefect for the rack ears to hang on.

and the width for all the rack bays is easy enough,,If a rack is 19 in. ear to ear,, you make the width of the bay 19 1/8 in. also, a 1 space rack is like IIRC 1 3/4 in. so you can get the height for how many spaces you need.

going by the specs in the pic you get your desk height, and all of that, just measure your mixers width to get the size of the shelf you have to build for it to sit on and that is also the monitor shelf width and how far apart the side units are :heh:

And then what you use the cardboard for,, is to lay out the shape/ height/ depth of the units so you can sit in a chair and make sure .....your legs fit underneath, you like the angle of the sloped racks, stuff like that,,

In my case the cardboard(which i don't have a picture of) looked like this..
desk007.jpg

Which you can get big cardboard from any furniture store..you know fridge box or something.

Hey Dave, I love that vibe you have in your control room....
Makes me want to smoke some dope for some reason?

I seriously love it.

Eeek, too bad that white has a serious case of the uglies - I just hope you have plenty of stuff to cover it with! :goggly:
