can you post the blueprints for that please
Sup?
There were no blueprints,,Like I was saying, I just Studied the picture,
and came to the conclusion it was basically two side units and shelves between them..(and a cool thing about it being built this way is that if you change mixers you just build a different size shelf).. so I got some approximate measurements from the specs, then sketched the shape of the side unit,, and tailored it to what i wanted.
and went from there.
for instance..the Omnirax has the mixer all the way to the armrest.....I wanted it to be just a little deeper front to back so i could have my 2 keyboards( 1 DAW, 1 for the D8B) on top and not on the sliding shelf underneath, as i usually have other stuff on there and didn't want to have to keep opening and closing the thing just to use the keyboard,,and i also wanted a little arm room on top and have room for the 2 mice.
as a result mine has 7 sloping rack spaces on each side whereas theirs only has 5.
I also put a platform underneath to put the computers.
Theirs has a little strip of wood in the top rack,, mine has a whole shelf so i wouldn't have to rely on the rack ears to hold the gear up, they just sit on the shelf. AND,,you don't have to buy the metal rack rails to go in it,,like for the sloped racks in the side units where the racks just hang,,I used a strip of 1x4( which is really a 1 3/4 X 3 1/2) cut down the center(1x2) which is prefect for the rack ears to hang on.
and the width for all the rack bays is easy enough,,If a rack is 19 in. ear to ear,, you make the width of the bay 19 1/8 in. also, a 1 space rack is like IIRC 1 3/4 in. so you can get the height for how many spaces you need.
going by the specs in the pic you get your desk height, and all of that, just measure your mixers width to get the size of the shelf you have to build for it to sit on and that is also the monitor shelf width and how far apart the side units are
And then what you use the cardboard for,, is to lay out the shape/ height/ depth of the units so you can sit in a chair and make sure .....your legs fit underneath, you like the angle of the sloped racks, stuff like that,,
In my case the cardboard(which i don't have a picture of) looked like this..
Which you can get big cardboard from any furniture store..you know fridge box or something.
Moshwits that is fucking killer man! This is EXACTLY the same idea I had a while back. I have like 300+ pictures of studio desks right now that I had saved and sifted through a gazillion times before I had a list of similar desks that fit my criteria. Then narrowed it down from there and ended up wanting a particular design. Now I just need to measure and calculate my costs so I can save up to get the materials.
Making your own is awesome, I can't wait. About how long did the project take you? What kind of schedule were you working on as well... Overall cost?

thanks for the comps

I hear ya about collecting studio pictures,, we oughta trade folders
Like i said,,the desk took 4 nights after work( I don't know 2 or 3 hrs a night maybe) and a grand total of $114... i already had the black paint
the room on the other hand,,,,

took 2.5 months of every available free waking moment

and i still haven't put the slats up on the side absorbers yet
