i have a problem some days ago with my POD xt pro.
i always record my guitar signal with my presonus firebox and i only use xt pro to load pod farm.
some days ago,i wanted to record connecting my guitar directly to pod. guitar -> pod xt pro -> spdif to firebox.

connecting guitar to pod xt pro i get some noise when i stop the strings, a lot noise i think. it´s a simple preset, diamondplate and screamer, no reverb, nothing more...

no, it isn´t noise gate, i always have noise gate ON. using pod farm with my firebox guitar signal works well...

what could be the problem? i need some help.

tomorrow, i´ll upload a comparison with my another method (guitar -> firebox preamp -> pod farm)
no floydrose in my guitar. i´ve a new ESP eclipse and i think there aren´t problems in my guitar.

could be the strings? i put new strings last week. and when i play one string it sounds a small vibration/resonance. i don´t know if that is normal...but, in my test i stop 100% my strings and they must not sound...

more opinions?

Have you messed with the input level switch? Perhaps you used to have it set to pad and somehow it got switched to normal? The higher input level would allow certain noises to get through the gate.

yes, it´s the same. i get that noise in both (normal and pad) because pad switch gets less guitar signal to pod xt pro to avoid input clipping. for this, in PAD i have to turn up gain and i get the same noise...:(

Strings behind the nut are still vibrating. I tied a hair band round mine and it eliminated that noise. Mine was on a Les Paul. Most people do this when recording.

Try a noise gate

i always use a noise gate first in my chain.

yes, could be but...i never had problems with my esp&pod. these problems began these last days and i don't understand why...
could be due to put bad the strings?

Agree on that, it sounds like it...I have all my hardtail guitars with foam btw the nut and the tuners, under the strings, to prevent that springy sound coming out ( it's way worse with an amp!!!)

Use something like a hairband, a folded piece of fabric, foam, and see if it helps, sometimes you even need to do the same between the bridge and tailpiece.

could be the problem, but, in my case, i think it has to be another problem (pod).
here is the comparison:

- guitar into firebox preamp (di and processed)
DI
Processed

- guitar directly to pod (di and processed)
DI
Processed

and if you see both DI´s, i see a difference:

some help?

Go to a tech if you think there's a problem. He'll sort you out. It's quite difficult to diagnose without seeing the guitar tbh.

Also, try out our suggestions and if they fix it, then we were right. No harm in trying it.

i think i´ll go to a tech because it seems to be a hardware (pod) problem because pod farm (pod) works well how you see in my firebox example...
it seems to be the pod inputs...

some more opinions would be appreciated.

Sounds like normal noise to me. The Podxt noisegate is horrible. sounds like the podfarm gate is doing a much better job. Almost sounds like the pod gate threshold is set too high or something. You can even hear hand noise between chords, whereas on the podfarm sample all of that is cut out. Are you 100% certain beyond a shadow of a doubt that gate settings are identical?

Have you tried the groundlift switch on the back of the pod?

i am thinking it could be a pod input hardware problem because i connect my guitar to line in in pod and...booom...the same problem.
yes, identical settings in noise gate.
today, i´ll try that switch. it has two positions (ground and lift). what position must i put?

There's three things happening:

1. You need to put some tape, foam, or a hairtie around the strings above the nut and behind the bridge - they're ringing out and causing harmonics to be picked up by the pickups.

2. The noisegate isn't closing fast enough on your XT - set the decay to a faster rate.

3. Your muting technique is not very good - you need to mute the strings completely and not just 'stop playing' if you expect a tight sound.

2. my decay is at 0.:heh:
3. in my firebox example i don´t see problems in my mutes. and the pod example is the same playing...

Seriously I don't get it, it's like everyone in this thread is totally ignoring the fact that the noise IS NOT PRESENT WHEN USING HIS FIREBOX AND PODFARM. Yet it is when he uses PODxt>spdif>FireBox. Everyone is telling him shit to do like it's the first time ever using this setup. He said he has been using PODfarm without this problem for a while now and he just recently tried another way of recording and NOW all of a sudden it's doing shit. Honestly dude I would say fuck it and just do it the way you have been doing it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, as they say.
