hey,
i am currently using ernire ball slinky 0.10 and switched to drop C tuning..
they get really "fluby".. the sound is mushed up unless i use some boost to tight it a bit but still, even on clean channel they sound mushy.

maybe 0.11 shall do it? do you have any suggestion?

i've also heard about the ernie ball not even 0.12- 0.56.. quite cheap also.. forgotr to mention i dont change strings often. maybe like once in 6 weeks (too expensive)

Personally, I think that's way too thin for that tuning. I use a set of 11s for D. I suggest you to get Ernie Ball Beefy set. It's exactly what you are looking for.

edit: yeah, you can get that Not even slinky set too, that's the ticket.

What are you using in your other tuning, and what tuning is it? What you're used to will be key in understanding what gauge will be right for downtuning.

I can tell you that 10-46 in E is 11-52 in D, 12-56 in C, and 13-60 in B.

^Yeah, that's what I think, and what I know from experience too.
Jeff, what's your opinion on the following question, I posted it in another thread:

I am using a set of '11s plus '62 for low A, tuned to ADGCFAD. I like the tension on the first 6 strings, and so-so on my 7th string. It's cool, but see, once I tuned the 7th string to B and I remember that I really liked the tension.

Since I plan to go back to B tuning completely, my question would be - if this time I use '62 for low B, but '10s on other strings, will the tension on 7th string will be similar to what I had when I tuned only that low string to B? Or should I maybe use '64 or something in order to achieve that?
?

You'll be fine with that IMO. I personally ran a 10-46 set with a low 60 for B standard on a 7, but the difference between 62 and 60 will be negligible. Far better than the standard 10-46+56 crap you normally see, where the B string has like 7 pounds less tension than the E, which is already 5-6 less than the A.

well in my other guitar (which is also lonlg scale, 24 frets_) i have 0.10 and its tuned to regular E.

The Not Even Slinky .12-.56 set will likely work. I prefer the unwound .24 and whenever I try to find D'addario with that gauge they're always a wound .24 for some reason, which lead me to going with Ernie Ball strings recently. Maybe the Guitar Center I go to just sucks because they never seem to have any .13's at all ffs.

Yeah, for the same tension as 10-46 in E on a 25.5 scale guitar, your guages would be:

11, 15, 19, 30, 42, 56

The closest you'll probably find is the Ernie Ball Beefy Slinky (11, 15, 22p, 30, 42, 54) or the D'addario 11-52 set (11, 14, 18, 30, 42, 52).

Nobody makes stock sets that will have the same tension, so you'll either have to compromise, buy in singles, or order custom sets (in bulk, 12 at a time) from Juststrings.com.

Anything above .20 on an unwound string sounds like garbage to my ears, and the imbalance of that DR set that Soultrash posted hurts my fingers just thinking about it.

I've played in drop C for the last 8 years and I haven't had a problem with the Ernie Ball Beefy Slinky's. For a while I used the Power Slinky's but wound up breaking those quite often and the Not Even's were just too thick for my taste. If you like EB then I can't recommend the Beefy's enough.
