Number 3.
Clicky, yet has that great lowend thump.. i REALLY liked this one!

Kick1 sounded really unnatural and the click was just a bit too much.. didnt like the tail on it either.
Kick2 sounded like Kick3, just pitched down which kinda' took away the nice attack in it.
Kick4 was just terrible.. just the most unnatural click, and the low end sounded more like a tom then a kick.

Feels a little bit unnatural on its own, but im pretty sure that it will sound _GREAT_ in the mix!

Kick3 is based on the 4th kick in the Alesis D4, right? "Spiked"?

I like 5... A LOT! WOuld definitely dig a multisample of it...

You're not getting phasing issues that way? Anyway, the results speak for themselves, it's a real good kick sound. The final (I promise) follow-up question: how much dampening was in the drum?

not as much dampening as usual actually.
just a rolled towel at each side (front and back) touching the skin.

no, phase was alright, it's like parallel compression...
that was actually what got me to try that, I wanted to get a really layered/parallel compressed sample

I'm only listening on computer speakers but 1 and 4 sound quite similar to each other, as do 2 and 3 which sound a little fuller but a little less clicky.

I voted for 3, but would agree that 5 sounds the best!
