It seems as though myself, Dargor, Winter and Zeimot are musicians, so instead of clogging up other threads, we can talk musician stuff here. Maybe since I am nice by creating a new thread and keeping these out of TM posts, Gaunerin will flirt with me a little bit too. :loco:

I rather stay away from married men ;)

Anyway, to add something to this thread, I actually used to be an active musican myself. As a kid. And not as a creative musician though. I went to music school from the age of 5 to learn reading notes, then carried on with various flutes (oh yeah, that's what all girls do, hehe...) - although I had a passion for piano. But well, it's a big instrument and a bit pricy too.....so that wasn't possible at that time. At some point I quit playing for about a year and then started with keyboard (not exactly piano, but close ;) ) Played that for a while and then quit with that too.........I'm not active anymore for more than 10 years already.
Damn, now I feel old

I thought of learning guitar at the beginning of this year but haven't done any steps towards it yet

Good thinking Bryant!

Here's my first question in this thread.
Are there any Tad Morose guitar and bass tabs out there?
I haven't found any so far.

Just pick yourself up a used acoustic. You don't have to invest much money in it. My wife plays flute and piccolo (I don't know how to spell that) as well. She hasn't played it in a while though. I tried to get her interested in guitar, but she wasn't until I got a bass. I came home from work one day and she was playing a song on bass. :D

I've nevet looked, but I play by ear and usually only use tab if there is something I can't figure out. With some of the harmony playing on MV, I might need some tab on some stuff though. If I run accross some, I will certainly post a link.

Part of Another Time Around is at metaltabs.com http://metaltabs.com/tab/3005/

I play some piano, mainly I just riff away at the guitar... I'm not Krunt's equal playing wise... but I have fun.

Writing wise I am quite proud of myself, I am very good at that.

Training wise, my brother helps me out if I get stuck but I've never taken a class... part of me wants to but part of me doesn't know if there's anyone around here I want to risk's style rubbing off on me, lol

When I get a chance I will tab out some stuff. I know most of Anubis, figured out the solo last night.

Wow !! You are talented. The Tad Morose duo aren't in my very top players as far as soloists, but they are very good, fairly clean and use some cool unique harmonies. I had better start practicing hard before PP or you are gonna spank my ass !!

Right now I am working doing arpeggios in sequences of 3's

?????? Oh shit !! I don't even know what that is. I tend to play both harmonic minor for the more technical stuff and your basic pentatonic riffs for "soul" but I don't use many appreggios. My style is based on more right hand technique (which is odd considering I am a right hand guitarist, yet write left handed) and rakes, pinch harmonics, string muffling and other right-hand techniques are my strength.

Writing is where it is at. I am technically proficient enough when I have to be, but it's not my forte' nor is it what I enjoy listening to most. My favorite newschool guitarist is Norwegian, Jorn Viggo Lofstat of Pagans Mind, but his idol is EVH and he has an oldschool vibe with a new twist.
To give Krunt and Daniel some praise though,.... as soloists, they are good, but not great. The way they play together though puts them in a very good category though. If they progress as much as they did from MotD to MV as much on the next release, it will be incredible.

Hey Dargor what do you think of Jorn Viggo from Pagans Mind ? He might be my favorite active guitarist as a soloist I can think of. I only say might because his work consists of only one album, but he rips. Like Wolf, he manages to play with great feeling and virtuosity. Who is your favorite ?

I don't know, I love their solos, or whichever band member writes each solo, lol. :)

I like him, but I like Stephan Lill better that tone kicks my ass! Nothing tops it when Lill hits that bend at the beginning of the solo for "Healing Tree".

My favorite soloist or guitar player?

Guitarist:Ritchie Blackmore-Even though he is sloppy at times and not a great rythem player he is very persistent in his writing. He has been writing great songs since 1968! Most of his solos are improv but when he writes one out, it usually is really good. Ex. Highway Star, Burn, STONE COLD!!!(my favorite solo)
I guess if you average it out it kind of makes him both, I would like to see him write more solos out though.

Soloists:Michael Romeo, Steve Morse, Shawn Lane, and Al DiMeola are all probably my favorite. Stephan Forte has some great moments too, but overall he doesn't make my top 5. I like my old guitar teacher's band alot, "Magistral". They have 2 guitar players now and my old guitar teacher and the new guitarist have great solos. Lately I have been listening too Mats Haugen(Circus Maximus) and his solo for Glory of the Empire rules.

That's all I can think of right now.

Writing is more important and I work really hard when either I or my bass player and I write a song. I am constantly taking songs we have already written and adding or taking away stuff. If you don't have alot of technique skills but you are great writer well your in the clear. Look at Jimmy Page or Kerry Livgren. But, if you have a crap load of technique and you can write really great stuff, ex.Michael Romeo, Stephan Forte, and John Petrucci. Then the stuff is not just great but it is interesting. If you have lots of technique and you can't write worth crap, ex. Francisco Fareri, then your'e screwed.

Well i can figure out one guitar player's part. I am not two guitar players so I can't harmonize with myself (that sounded kind of nasty) unless I mess with my digiwhammy. My bass player has my adaptor though.

I don't really have them down as I say I am working on them right now. I try to come with alot licks using arpeggios but I don't use them like Yngwie though. I make phrases with them and use different speeds to play them.

The arpeggios in 3's are just this for example:take a B minor arpeggio play the first 3 notes and then start from the second and go from their.

Basic Triads. that's all here is an example:
1-2-3, 2-3-1, 3-1-2, 1-2-3

Me and bass player are writing an instrumental for the talent show. Theory wise I pull out everything I know, Double Harmonic Minor, Romanian Minor, Hirajoshi scale, Gypsy scale, and of course Japanese Penatonics!

I hope I don't come off like some 16 year old who thinks he is better than everyone and think he knows everything. I can see where it could be read that way, but I know that If I challenged Stephan Forte to a duel he would kill me, literally! :worship:

lol true
