Picture this:
They are gonna send a rocket out in space.Hopefully to make contact with an other alian lifeforce. They are gonna
pack this rocket full of stuff that represent life on earth. They
are gonna send a lot of music records with all kinds of music.
And they have decided that they only gonna send 8 metal
records. But which 8 records are they gonna send. They have
turned to UM for help.So its up to you to help them.Which 8 metalrecords should they send.

WHICH 8 RECORDS BEST REPRESENT THE METAL SCENE OVER
THIS 30 YEARS OR SO?

Not the greatest memory for album names - but I'll give you an idea

1. Led Zeppelin (the one with Kashmir on it)
2. Metallica - Black album
3. Opeth - Blackwater Park
4. Iron Maiden
5. Kiss
5. Jimi Hendrix
6. Guns and Roses - Appetite for Destruction
7. any "Big Hair 80's Band", such as Warrant, Poison, Winger, Whitesnake, Great White, White Lion etc.:deb:
8. a metal compilation with one metal song each from (ugh) genre, such as speed, death, goth, etc etc

As you can tell - a lot of older bands. Personally, I like metal of today, but I have yet to hear much that has had the impact of bands I've listed (and as far as I know, they would be considered metal in their time, and maybe even today). Of course, over time, this will change. Who knows, in 20 years, Dimmu Borgir and Nevermore will make the list.

1. Black Sabbath - "Black Sabbath"

2. Iron Maiden - "Iron Maiden"

3. Metallica - "Master of Puppets"

4. My Dying Bride - "Turn Loose the Swans"

5. Edge of Sanity - "Purgatory Afterglow"

6. Celestial Season - "Solar Lovers"

7. Opeth - "Orchid"

8. Queensrÿche - "Operation:Mindcrime"

1. Bolt Thrower: Realm of Chaos
2. My Dying Bride: Turn Loose the Swans
3. Black Sabbath: ???
4. Metallica: Master of Puppets
5. Iron Maiden: Live after death
6. Ulver: William Blake....
7. Emperor: Anthems to the Welkin at dusk
8. Def Leppard: Hysteria

An effort to cover all the important styles (hey, YOU try doing it with 8 albums):loco:

I just thought it would be a little harder to narrow it down to 8 albums. Its like making your all time top 10 list, its just too many albums so you end up with a top 30 list instead. You can put in an alltime top 8 list if you want,it doesnt have to be from all genres if you dont want to.But I think the lists so far is alright.(I am still working on my list):D

Great topic! :D

° Evoken "Quietus"
° My Dying Bride "Turn Loose The Swans"
° Skepticism "Lead and Aether"
° Samael "Ceremony of Opposites"
° Emperor "In the Nightside Eclipse"
