Does anyone know what that birthdate may be or at least a close approximation. It would be cool to have a day to celebrate it. I would say that somewhere in the mid 70's is when it was born and I attribute alot of that to Judas Priest. Some may argue Black Sabbath but I say Priest and somewhere around 1974-76.

Deep Purple's Highway Star to me is the first metal song, or Smoke on the Water

Don't know when Machinehead came out

Before or after Sabbath?

Black Sabbath started it when they were called Earth in 1967/68 or somewhere around there. Some would argue that Jimi Hendrix was the first. He played "metal", but the songs he played were not(imo).

I`m stickin w/Sabbath.

I guess we could also say Zeppelin were pioneers of metal too. What I am really trying to get at here is the birthdate of speed metal, which in that case I would say Priest and maybe Sabbath.
