The BLACK METAL recommendations thread

Geez, these guys are not bad at all from what I have heard... I really should pay more attention to the Australian metal scene. If these guys tour nationally I will definetely go see them. The addition of the violinist/clean vocalist is killer... His voice is so un-Black Metal is a great breath of fresh air, not often you hear high-pitched clean male vocals in the genre.

You were not kidding about blistering drums either, I mean holy fuck..

EDIT: And now I think about it, some of the screams are very reminiscent of Mikael Akerfeldt and do as well at blending seemlessly with the Black Metal vocals as Akerfeldts growls do with his prog rock voice. In listening to the overall style of the music I am starting to see that the band they have a fair bit in common with Death Metal as well as Black Metal and not just in the loose Opeth comparison, it is just there is certainly an air of technicality not seen in a lot of Black metal.

I'm surprised no one has made this thread in this sub forum yet. Anyways, for starters, I am looking for doom black metal, such as early Forgotten Tomb, Bethlehem, Abyssic Hate, etc. Actually, any gloomy, depressive black metal would do, but I am most interested in melodic black doom recommendations.

Thurisaz-Circadian Rhythm
I think you'll enjoy it. Definitely some doom elements to it along with a folky Amorphis style and some brutal Black Metal shrieks at times...interesting band that's kicking my balls lately.

They're pretty good. Their sound is hard to describe, very melodic though, their more aggressive stuff reminds me a lot of Graveworm.

Now that Marduk has re-issued their back catalogue, what album should I get?

the one you like most

seriously, you're online, besides file sharing, there are websites from which you can hear samples of their songs, so why don't you do what anyone in a record store would do, and listen before you buy, and then buy what you like?

To tell you the truth, I have never heard a full album by Dimmu Borgir. What is their best release (if I should even check them out)?

Shining(the black metal band not the jazz metal band) - V
Negura Bunget - OM
Weakling - Dead As Dreams
Ulver - Bergtatt
Urfaust - Nichtswürdiger Geist Verräterischer
Summoning - any of their albums are good

This my order of favs for Dimmu:
1. Spiritual Black Dimensions
2. Enthrone Darkness Triumphant
3. Stormblast
4. Puritanical Misanthropic Euphoria
5. Stormblast MMV
6. In Sorte Diaboli
7. Death Cult Armaggeddon
8. For Al Tid

Newbies should start with Enthrone Darkness Triumphant though.

I'm looking for something similar to 1349's HellFire.

Something that will just rip my face off!!!

Anyone know any bands/albums that have this sound?

I don't listen to 1349, but Gorgoroth-Under the Sign The Hell seems to fit the face ripping.
