The Bland Commercialisation?

this was the best song to be made as a video as ghost of prediton,baying of the hounds,beneath the mire are a storry & if they reduce even one minuite of any of them it wont be a good video at all

imo they shouldn't have to reduce the songs. but in reality a video won't get played unless its a certain length, so unfortunately the band didn't have much of a choice. i, for one, would have highly preferred the first 4 minutes of Ghost of Perdition, even if the story is unfinished.

da=the,dis=this,dunn=dont
How does typing like this make it any quicker? Dunn and dont have the same amount of letters. Now if you were to use proper punctuation in "don't", I could see it being worth saving 1/10th of a second to type "dunn".

it has one good moment. 6:30 when the first riff comes back. Most opeth tracks are crammed full of moments like this, you dont know what is next.. tracks leave behind fantastic parts to bring in more and more. This track is pretty much verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-''good bit''-verse-chorus-chorus with a main riff flowing through. if a different band did this track maybe I'd like it..(probably not though) but anyways my point is its disappointing by opeth standards

There hasnt been much slander on that song since it came out, When there were a billion 'whats your favourite/least favourite song/album poll'. Making this thread is resurfacing the bad things some people think about this particular song.

lol that evil tentical i remeber playing that game as a child, and i want to play it again lol what was it called?
day of the tentacle

TGC is not good because it just sounds so forced. By that I mean its not a heavy song yet it is played as if it is heavy. Its almost as if they're using technique and not the music itself to make the song, and that's not good.

I haven't seen that many people claim TGC is too commercial, just that it's not a very good song when held up to Opeth's other work. Something I agree with. The song still hasn't clicked with me. It's not *bad*, but it sticks out like a sore thumb on the album. It just doesn't really fit well inbetween the songs that surround it and the songwriting is not as good as that of the rest of the album.

I've noticed that the Grand Conjuration is consistently bagged here for being overly commercial and too simple. But I don't see anything wrong with the song. C'mon, it's over 10 mins long, has some really good riffs and some of Opeth's most effective polyrhythms. Granted its a bit repetitive, but it's not as though this isn't a pretty common aspect Opeth's music (eg. Dirge for November). Overall, I think this song is undeservingly ripped.

Day Of The Tentacle. Bloody fantastic game, even if some of the puzzles were obscure to say that least. Fav bit = the evil tentacle inventing a miniaturization ray, as step one of destroying all humans. Step two? Figuring out how to operate it without fingers :lol:

ps. If you at all liked that game, go hire and play Psychonauts! Every bit as good, except much more modern.

Actually, I feel like TGC is the center of the album, like every other song is based around it if that makes sense.
