The Children Of Bodom Gear Thread

It's possible that he owns two different guitars in the style of Alexi.

It's also possible that he took two photos of the same yellow beveled guitar with a slightly different angle and he or someone photoshopped it.

I wouldn't know which to choose, because the green pin one looks very good and real.

Q1:There are three 12AX7 tube in the GP1000 , and I wonder what's the funtion of each 12AX7 tube.I mean that Are they the same ? or maybe they have different funtion . for example: maybe one manage the clean tone part , one manage the distrotion part or somthing....

Q2:there are tube covers on each 12AX7 , is it necessary ? or maybe I can remove it?

btw, what 12AX7 do you guys suppose Laiho use? thanks:)

There just gainstages. More gainstages = more gain.
The tube's/gainstages just amplify your signal. And together with Cathode/plate resistors and coupling caps they adjust your tone.

The first gainstage is always enabled, if you use the pull distortion knob you can engage the second gainstage.

The GP1000 has 6 gainstages. 4 in front of the EQ and 2 after.
Remember that you must use set the volume knob to a low level if you want a clean sound, thats because your signal will be reduced and wont distort your tube's.

Remember, i'm not a fully experienced amplifier technican. And all of the things i say are based on the M-1000 preamp.

Q2: Dunno.

Q2, I believe you have to unscrew them out in order to take out the tubes. It's what I did anyway. Maybe you can take tubes out too without unscrewing the covers?

I have no idea what tubes Alexi used and IMO it doesn't matter anyway. I have still original 'Lee Jackson' branded chinese 12AX7s in it and they sound great! I also tested some Mesa Boogies, EH and one other brand (forgot wich one DOH) and all of them had less gain than the original tubes. My tech also tried putting some different tubes in it and came to the same conclusion. If you want to change the tubes, I suggest you look for some chinese 12AX7s.

thanks , really helpful for me

the tube covers are sort of like "seat belts" for the tubes. They hold them in place and sometimes they have springs in the covers to absorb any vibrations and cushion the tubes.

Yes you can take them off

hi all, i've looked at alexi's rigs and whatnot...i've noticed a few mistakes, now i didn't read every post to see if these mistakes had been pointed out....but yeah....

it shows that alexi used a kerry king marshall for the
recording of blooddrunk. while true, in an interview
with guitarworld he stated that he used it in
conjunction with his GP-1000. also to be noted he uses
a boss SD-1 to boost the kerry king,i noticed this
from studio shots, as well as when i saw them live on
gigantour.this leaves me to believe that he uses the
the kerry king with "the beast" section off and boosts
it with the SD-1.

i noticed that the RSP 2400 was not included in the
the different rigs. i'm not sure when he started using
it, but it has definently been in his rig since AYDY.
it is in his active signal chain.

it should be noted that he hasn't used the rocktron
intellifex to alter his sound in quite sometime, he
use to use it for chorus on a few solos (which ones
i'm not sure) but now it is just used to split the
signal from his GP-1000 to his VHT poweramp.

in videos of children of bodom playing the Milwaukee
Metalfest in 2000 it appears that alexi was using a
5150.

it is listed that at tuska 2003 that alexi used his
GP-1000 and a peavey 50/50. after watching the tuska '03 vids its appears as though alexi is using the GP-1000 with an Engl 840 poweramp, along with a Boss SD-1 and a dunlop crybaby from hell along with his rocktron intellifex and marshall 1960b cab.

the proper name for the cabinents he uses are 1960B,
they are loaded with celestion vintage 30's.

thats all that i've noticed at this time.

That 5150 has no cables or anything in it and it is turned off ;). Probably put there and used by some other band. For example, there is also some ENGL amp in the Milano 1999 video, but it's not used by COB.

That story sounds familiar, did you copy it?

Anyway, the KK2203 is a modified Marshall JCM800. The "beast" section is based on Kerry king his pedals. A Noisegate and a 10-band equalizer.
The Gate/Threshold controls this noisegate, and the other one controls the ammount of boost of the equalizer.

I think he still uses the Noisegate.

We/i already know that. But i can't remember a chorus effect during a solo. But alexi did used some delay or reverb during live performance's.

I dont know how you came to the conclusion that he used an ENGL. He uses an ENGL poweramp when playing with sinergy.

This looks like an Peavey 50/50 to me:

And he had a yellow pedal (Boss SD-1 and a wah) behind his monitors.

Dude, the 1960B cabinet has G12T-75 speakers.

And theJCM800/JCM900 cabinet = 1960 cabinet.

thats all that i've noticed at this time.
yeah, next time pay more attention please.
