The Children Of Bodom Gear Thread

Yeah Ive got a e570 which is killer, but nothing I own beats the dry mid-ragy sound of my modified GP-1000.

570 had a lot of tweaking controls. So you can tweak this dry mid as good as it is in gp-1000. And your gp-1000 is @mooded@ so it`s got more gain.
570 and 530 can sounds pretty the same as gp1000 but it`s little bit grainy (all engls sounds ENGLgrainy).
Strange but some people are selling ther gp1000 after years of playing. Looks like people starting to understand that ENGL can sound damn good as Gp1000 and you shouldn`t pay for gp1000 so much money. For price of gp1000 you can buy e530+tube poweramp if you will try of course _)
Anyway gp1000 is good. I just want to say that Alexi is not just switched to ENGL...

Yeah, Ive tested a lot of different, amplifires, and I do agree that ENGL is the closest thing to a GP-1000, but there is sonething more magical about the mid-shift response that beats even ENGL. I haven't tested any modded marshalls fron 80-90, so I can't say anything about the other hair metal amps. But I've recently accuired a modded ADA MP-1 which sounds just like my Engl, but without that ENGL dryness which all of their amos have. And ENGL amps do got just as much bass response as a mesa boogie, I guess Alexi liked more chrunchy bass end these days.

A friend of mine in a band called "Iskald" got the 2203KK. He's a huge Slayer fan :p So I've both tried it and heard it live. It's just a gain modded marshall jmc 800 with extra clarity because of the KT88 tubes. Sounds good, but Blackstar (only tried HT-100) and ENGL (e570) impress me more.

Hi guitar nerds.

I've got an opportunity to put a Jackson J50bc-pickup on my Tokai Les Paul. Anyone got experience in that combination. Would it be worth a try?

Without any preamp (Mm-04, je-1000/1200, ALX ABQ or similar) it would sound thin and trebly. It is a low output PAF pickup with less output than stock gibson/tokai pickups.

Yeah, I have a lot of pictures to take of both my original je-1000 and modded gp-1000, I'll get to it next week, have to do some maintenance on my guitars then anyways.

i gotta a question... theorically to get a alexi tone with an alexi guitar and emg alx with something like a pod hd300 would be use lots of mids and use a jcm800 right? what else could i do?

When I`ve got an hd500 I`m using an screamer in front of jcm800, but it sounds pretty shitty coz jcm800 is bad in POD. Better use POD`s engl tone.

Before (You could see the purple/pinkish capacator and close by it is the regular resistor, but it is too dark in this picture):

After modification (Replaced the purple/pinkish capacator (22uf) with a purple and blue (0.68uf). And replaced the resistor to the left of it in this picture 1,5kohm to 825 ohm) :

The person who soldered the orignal caps and resistors had a little hot soldering iron, as you can see the yellowish burned rings around most the connection holes in all the pictures althought I didn't do a perfect job myself, but it works and that's the main thing:

I've got two Jackson Lee GP-1000, one late transitional 87 and on early 88 and both looks totally the same, but still sounds different, even with the mods:

Here is the one in my other "rack" along with my ENGL's n' stuff:

And so for my two pictures of my JE-1000 in my custom Jackson (got another one other in a another guitar (the one I bought on ebay) but it is not working at the moment so...):
