how (and why) the fuck do you work through so many aliases?
Because Deron and and the Metal-Rules staff are assholes.

I see what you're getting at. Pantera are mindless, but they make shit music (opinion). The majority of their fans are redneck idiots who are all, "Whooo! Beer!" I hate this aspect. Slayer have a lot of similar fans, but they make good music (opinion) and should be enjoyed. I haven't heard this new Darkthrone yet, but I bet I'd like it. Music doesn't have to be serious/intellectual to be good or enjoyable. If you want something intellectual, listen to something else. I definitely don't listen to bands like Toxic Holocaust for their lyrical value. It's just fun music that I like a lot. If I want something serious, "valuable", or artistic, I'll listen to Deathspell Omega, Leviathan, or even older Darkthrone.MasterOLightning said:I'm probably around the same age as you, and I also enjoy drinking, as well as headbanging when the mood strikes, but this is far from the main reason I listen to metal. It seems like this used to be the main motivation for quite a few people today, and the overwhelming majority of '80s metal fans, and all the brainless Pantera fans of the '90s. I feel like the days of having such low expectations, or maybe I should say simple ones, should be done with. There's a place for mindless metal, but I expect a lot from what I listen to and what I buy. I don't make a big deal out of who did what first like the anus camp does, but place more of an emphasis on execution.
Toad Lord said:I loved the Black'nRoll touch in "The Cult Is Alive"... DARKTHRONE has evolved a lot, not musically but yes in attitude... The band don't take themselves so seriously anymore and the result had been great.

You do realize that A Blaze... was the first black metal album to be released right? Well, it was the first out of the second wave. How do you do a tribute to something that hadn't been done yet? They were originators up until Panzerfaust. The Greys said:I never took Darkthrone serious or thought the band was because all the albums after Soulside Journey sound more like a tribute to celtic frost & black metal. The band seems to be trying to have fun without the serious approach. Soulside Journey is an original death metal album for the time with unique music. I can't find riffs that sound like another band. I don't think Darkthrone ever found a sound of their own after that when just deciding to switch to BM. The band has released more black metal albums but still do not have their own sound or anything imo. I don't think the band is serious.
It's more like we get drunk and play tribute to our favorite bands.(nothing wrong with it regardless). Music is about having fun but the band could have tried to be more unique imo. When hearing Darkthrone I do not see them as a classic band with their own style.
I'm one of those person that finds Soulside Journey to be the bands best.

Drink some Hobgoblin and crank loud!
I think a quote by Wrest of Leviathan works well in this situation:KevenZ said:before judging someone's work, do you even contribute something or you're just a big fatass who sit in front of his screen everyday? anyway.... i don't see how can you review a metal album since you don't even like metal to begin with.
Mollusks that deem themselves qualified to "review" for their inability to
create anything...
