Hello ! it's my first post here !

in the brazilian magazine COVER BAIXO ( oriented for bassists ) there's a nice interview with Luis Mariutti ( Shaman ) and Felipe Andreoli ( Angra ) and look what they said about Rhapsody :

... ( Luis is asked about bands wich have ridiculous acts )
Luis: I know that I'll shock some fans, but Rhapsody is an exemple of this kind of band
Felipe: Oh, but everyone knows it !
Luis: Yeah, who makes everything in the band is Sascha ( Paeth, the producer of Rhapsody, Shaman, Kamelot... )although, the guys have some ideas in the music. But all the execution in the studio is made by Sascha and the eletronic drums. Luca Turilli just began to record the guitars now. Man, if I go to Italy now I'll be killed by the Metal mafia ( general laughs )

well, I've always known that Alex never recorded the drums on the cds, that they use eletronic drums, but what Luis told is very serious...maybe, Luis said and Felipe confirmed...

this is very sad, not because I'm a fan of Rhapsody, I hate their music, but it's a shame for every heavy metal fan

in my opinion...

Yeah, that does suck, but I would agreethat Rhapsody is a ridiculous act. It sais in the booklet that drums are played by 'thunderforce', which sucks because Alex Holzworth is an incredible drummer. Listen to his work in Seges Even.I don't know why they don't just use him?

I'm having some trouble understanding Mr. Mariutti's engrish. Let me see if I got this straight:

1. All of Rhapsody's drum parts are electronic and programmed by their producer.
2. Luca Turilli did not record guitar on previous albums but is laying down tracks for the new one.

Sad indeed, if true.

I have a bootleg video of Luca Turilli Playing live and he plays it just like on the CD's. I know producers help with the sound quality and arrangments, but I seriously doubt that he wrote and played the guitars on the CD's. Luca Turilli Has all the recording equipment to record the songs in his home. He also Uses a nice program called cubase to record them with. So he writes the music. I don't buy him not writing his music. He is not a the milli vanilli of Metal.

This is bullshit... Alex Strapoli said so on the Rhapsody board. I know he's biased, but Luca and the guys can play the stuff.

Also, Rhapsody admitted that Alex never played the drums before, but he's going to on this album.

Well, a lot of people who went in their last gig in São Paulo are saying in the angra's forum that they used playback in some parts of the music, and I'm not speaking about the orchestral parts. But I can't say that it's true because I was not there.

I'm sure about what Luís said, it's in the magazine, if another brazilian buy it, he or she can say if it's true or not. But I must admit that this story is really strange.

This is taken from official Rhapsody forum and it's written by Alex Staropoli:

"Hi everyone!
It's my pleasure to comment about that.
First of all, not all the magazines and journalist are supporting
the truth, and sometimes various misunderstandings comes
really easy... as also translation language problems.
I would like to know what brazilian magazine is and to verify if
thoose words are really written there at first.
We can not start to judge people without any verifycations.
I meet Luis Mariutti many times, as Angra, and also if we did not
had a chance to know a bit eachother i think he's a nice person,
and it's hard to believe what the brazilian magazine is saying.
Also if all that would be true, why they should use "their" space in a
magazine to make "free promotion" to Rhapsody?

For all of you that will maybe believe in this "infos" here i go with
some real infos:
I still own mastertapes of our very first recordings we did in Trieste
many years ago, and of course, most important, tons of floppy disks
full of Rhapsody songs that we used for all our albums, and believe me,
all songs are fully composed and arranged, as prove that WE ARE THE
COMPOSERS.
I'm sure somebody noticed the big improvement that we made from
our very first demo to Legendary Tales or Symphony of enchanted lands
albums, and that's the beauty of beeing inspired musician and people
who are ready to improve, fight, and go for the best result as possible,
for personal satisfaction and of course for all the fans listening and
supporting the band.
We worked for many years before face our first studio production!
NO fucking around or loosing time!!!

Drums:
What a nice argument again!
I told many times, that we used to trigger our drums becouse our
big friend Daniele Carbonera, our ex drummer, needed help to face
the extremely difficult Rhapsody drums parts.
As i said many times we loved and we love him so much that we
gave him the chance to play with us as long as possible.
Unfortunately we broked up, but we are still brothers!
For the others albums we used a session man becouse we did not
finded a deal and the right time schedule with Alex Holzwarth.
For the future Rhapsody albums,as you all may know already,
Alex Holzwarth will record the drums in all the songs.

I hope you did enjoy reading my words as i did writing.
I wish you all the best!"

GLORIA PERPETUA,
ALEX.

I just can't understand how musician like Felipe and Luis can fall so deep to act like this, just because of envy. This is truly a shame for every heavy metal fan. Luis actually has sent apologies because of this, but they never convinced me. Pathetic.

As soon as a band starts being mentioned together with things like "they may not play their own instruments", or there is talk of "session musicians", it's pretty much "bye" from me. There is a bit of truth in everything and I'm not surprised with Rhapsody.

More reasons not to listen to Rhapsody.

I would highly suggest checking out Alex's old band Sieges Even... especially "A Sense of Change"... which is a beautiful album. Alex Holzworth really displays his considerable drumming talents there.

I suggest you to read my reply.

The ONLY reason I'd NOT listen to something is that I don't like it.

I know that YJM is a relatively closed mind but I enjoy his music!

!?!?!!?!?!?!WTF are you guys/gals talking about?!?!?!!??!??!?!!

Believe him. ;) "A Sense of Change" is a fantastic album, the best one by a fantastic band which sadly doesn´t exist anymore.

I dont wanted to hurt anyone, believe me !!!! Seems like I've unleashed the fucking fury of Alex Staropoli :tickled: :loco:

Here's the original message posted in Angra's forum by a guy called NUNO BETTENCOURT : ( it's in portuguese )

I don't doubt that Rhapsody has used session musicians in the studio, and the drums are obviously triggered (most metal bands tend to use triggers, Rullo's set is triggered in the studio, I believe). I don't blame Luis or Filipe for saying what they did, because chances are they are just hearing the same rumors that the rest of us are. Rhapsody is not the kind of band that thinks of their studio albums as being "recordings of songs they will play live" but using the studio to layer as much as they can get away with. I still enjoy their music :).
