The Friday Five

1. Smells. Do you have a scent that when you smell it, brings up a memory?
Chinatown in Manhattan has a distinct smell of fish plus garbage. It sounds putrid but it has a sweet undertone to it that makes me remember the other Chinatown where I lived for 20 years before moving.

2. Songs. Is there a particular song that brings back happy memories?
Just about any song by Byron Lee and the Dragonaires reminds me of being with my family.

3. How about a song that brings up painful memories?
None.

4. Food. Is there a certain food that conjures up memories?
Coconuts. My mom used to crack a coconut open, drain the water, strain it for me and my sister to drink, chop up the meat and add food coloring, and we'd eat it from the shell like a bowl.

5. Clothing? Do you have an item of clothing or if you see a certain item, does it make you think of a time/place or person?
Skirts: I still own the skirt I wore when I lost my virginity.

Pants: Over the course of a year, I lost 50 pounds. I keep my fat jeans, but I cut them so I can never wear them again and I keep them in my closet as a reminder to myself to never fit into them again.

Shirts: I have a Corona tshirt I got for free. I arrived to a study group wearing it, and everyone there was coincidentally wearing a Corona shirt. I think of that whenever I wear it. Oh, and I have the shirt I got when I saw Symphony X last year and I think of the lovely forumers I went to that show with, as well as the lame ones who missed out :)

1. The smell of the sea (yes, it does have a smell :p) reminds me of the good times we spent at a beach house we once lived in.
2. Vivaldi's Four Seasons is pretty associated with a lot of good moments from my childhood.
3. Graveworm's 'Threnody' reminds me of a very sad event from my early teenagehood.
4. Food? nah :p
5. Sure, my girlfriend's awesome gifts.

1. Smells. Do you have a scent that when you smell it, brings up a memory?
Burning toast reminds me of my childhood living with my folks

2. Songs. Is there a particular song that brings back happy memories?
David Lee Roth's 'Yankee Rose' always reminds me of flying to the Greek Islands for holidays for some reason

3. How about a song that brings up painful memories?
Thunder's 'Don't Wait For Me' always reminds me of splitting up with my first long-term girlfriend. I was gutted....... *bursts into tears* :erk:

4. Food. Is there a certain food that conjures up memories?
A tin of cheap-ass spaghetti bolognese on toast was my pre-gig ritual meal for quite a while!

5. Clothing? Do you have an item of clothing or if you see a certain item, does it make you think of a time/place or person?
Thigh boots always remind me of a dancer I went out with for a while :heh:

1. Everything.
2. Just about everything.
3. Rain - Cerulean Blue. The whole damn album. Excellent disc.
4. most things.
5. Uh, a lot of my stuff is sentimental. Concerts, people, places.

so everyone's being alot more candid, I guess i'll give examples too:

1. Vanilla coke: college. I had packs of the shiz in my dorm fridge all the time.
2. Jack's Mannequin - MFEO. Cheesy I know, but that and Anberlin - Dismantle.Repair. are dear to me because of who they remind me of and the times we shared when we were just starting out. Lyrics like Hands like secrets are the hardest thing to keep from you. are just awesome.
3. As stated above, this one and Wishing Tree - Carnival Of Souls were kind of my depression balm through hard times. There's also Third Eye Blind - Farther and How's It Gonna Be How's it going to be when I don't know you anymore?. Yeah, I know now and it's better than I thought.
4. Yas will tell you I'm the cheezit king. I also have a memory associated with Smirnoff and cheap red wine. Good times in London, Natalie. Definitely good times, and very drunk times. This is related to #3 cause she was my good friend when I was down.
5. I have a jacket and hat from the ex, that I still love to wear. I have a homemade hat from the current gf, and a bunch of stuff we bought together or ones she's stolen, worn and given back. Also shirts she's said are her favorite, or jeans she and I idly doodled on that I still wear.

2) Something that only happens once in a lifetime.
3) Not a favorite, but it's the only photo I have allowed anyone to take of me in recent memory!

Eagle Nebula. There is one from Hubble that I like more only because it managed to capture thousands of galaxies. Amazing.

5) This one, because it was taken on the same day I got attacked by a drooling, hissing mother goose for trying to help two of it's little gosling's trapped on our side of the fence. Bitch!

This requires an explanation. We were in improv class last year and this kid who is a total dumbass, complete douche, and all-around waste of flesh kept bitching to out teacher about how he didn't understand chord symbols and that's why he sucked at improvising (well...it was probably one of the reasons). The confusion was stemming from the fact that some people denote "major 7th" with a "7" that has a line throught he middle of it, you'll see what I mean in the picture. It's a somewhat common thing and he did let us know in advance to avoid confusion. Don't ask me why this kid was even in that class, because I still don't know...he did fail it though, horribly. Anyway...so he's bitching and crying and the teacher finally gets fed up and goes up to the board to write "7=major f*%#ing seventh". The kid's reaction was priceless. Admittedly, you had to be there to really appreciate this.

1. Take
2. Things that don't like their picture taken. Places nobody takes pictures of because it's not a 'kodak moment'.

I don't have a favorite. Here I am on Mt. Washington, home of the worst weather on the planet. (literally, it's a record.)
4.

Far too many to choose from. This is a photo from a place in Poland.
5.

This is in Bosnia at a concert. The flags are from all around the world, even countries currently at war with each other. People are united in peace through a common interest.

6. Besides our epic NYC bash, I have none.

1) Yep! I just started my first year as an undergraduate. 2) See above 3) Too early to tell now.. I'm actually very miserable right now and I have only been here for 2 weeks... 4) Just to Wal-Mart for some jeans, t-shirts and some notebooks etc. 5) In high school, no not at all. It was not until the middle of my junior year that I snapped out of that trend. Some of my grades where so low the teachers, by law, had to give me extra points to keep me above a 50%. Then my senior year my GPA for that year was a 4.3. Strange..

Undergraduate

3. Are you someone who enjoys/enjoyed going back to school?
Yes

4. Do/did you like back-to-school shopping? Why or why not?
I bought a pair of jeans and some new pens. I'm not a big fan of shopping in general....unless it's for new gear or new music

5. Are/were you a good student?
Very

Back to school..

1. Are you going to school this fall? If not, what was the most recent year of school you completed?
No. BS in electrical engineering in 1994.

2. If yes, what kind of schooling are you doing (high school, undergraduate, graduate, etc.)?
Thinking about applying myself toward an MBA, but still testing the job waters elsewhere as well.

3. Are you someone who enjoys/enjoyed going back to school?
I liked school, but really because it was screw-around time. I don't know that I could go back because of what it used to be. I have too many other responsibilities now to not take it absolutely serious.

4. Do/did you like back-to-school shopping? Why or why not?
Yeah, it was fun getting stuff for my daughter. And we hit some cool sales at the Allen outlet mall when we went to Six Flags Arlington. Found some uniform pants marked $10.99 and they rang up at the register for $2.99. My wife proceeded to buy out their inventory of Size 7.

5. Are/were you a good student?
I didn't apply myself very much in college. I did all my homework standing at my locker in high school. I got A's in high school and had a 3.27 GPA in college. I could have studied rather than played soccer/volleyball/whatever and guitar all day long.

1. Are you going to school this fall. If not, what was the most recent year of school you completed?
BA (Ed) primary education and humanities 1999 Exeter University

2. If yes, what kind of schooling are you doing (high school, undergraduate, graduate, etc.)?
I'm now finishing a distance-learning diploma as a foot health practitioner, might do the podiatry degree after

3. Are you someone who enjoys/enjoyed going back to school?
yup, I like the challenge

4. Do/did you like back-to-school shopping? Why or why not?
Don't really mind, but as a kid it did piss me off that shop 'back to school' promotions started on the first day of the bloody holiday. :heh:

5. Are/were you a good student?
OK, I managed to mess around, party and generally enjoy life and still get a degree. I could have worked harder, but I wouldn't have had such a good time. :Smokin:

1. Are you going to school this fall? If not, what was the most recent year of school you completed?[/B]
Already started a month ago

2. If yes, what kind of schooling are you doing (high school, undergraduate, graduate, etc.)?
Upper secondary school, which is sort of same as high school, I guess.

3. Are you someone who enjoys/enjoyed going back to school?
Not really, but kind of. Half good, half bad.

4. Do/did you like back-to-school shopping? Why or why not?
Nah, I don't even really think about buying clothes or whatever for school alone. Don't really like shopping anyway. Luckily I already have all the books.

5. Are/were you a good student?
Yes, I think so. I could be better, but I don't bother trying.

At Ken: Did you travel all those places through your school or did you just go on a lot of vacations? That seems like it would be hella expensive!
