1. Smells. Do you have a scent that when you smell it, brings up a memory?
Chinatown in Manhattan has a distinct smell of fish plus garbage. It sounds putrid but it has a sweet undertone to it that makes me remember the other Chinatown where I lived for 20 years before moving.
2. Songs. Is there a particular song that brings back happy memories?
Just about any song by Byron Lee and the Dragonaires reminds me of being with my family.
3. How about a song that brings up painful memories?
None.
4. Food. Is there a certain food that conjures up memories?
Coconuts. My mom used to crack a coconut open, drain the water, strain it for me and my sister to drink, chop up the meat and add food coloring, and we'd eat it from the shell like a bowl.
5. Clothing? Do you have an item of clothing or if you see a certain item, does it make you think of a time/place or person?
Skirts: I still own the skirt I wore when I lost my virginity.
Pants: Over the course of a year, I lost 50 pounds. I keep my fat jeans, but I cut them so I can never wear them again and I keep them in my closet as a reminder to myself to never fit into them again.
Shirts: I have a Corona tshirt I got for free. I arrived to a study group wearing it, and everyone there was coincidentally wearing a Corona shirt. I think of that whenever I wear it. Oh, and I have the shirt I got when I saw Symphony X last year and I think of the lovely forumers I went to that show with, as well as the lame ones who missed out
