Referring to the new Gathering album, Souvenirs, and the song Garm of Ulver did with them, making a wonderful duo with Anekke.
It (A Life All Mine) is a great song - the lyrics are awesome - and it's always an enlightment to see musicians help out each other. Especially the artists so calmly diverse such as Ulver and the Gathering - both are best examples of bands exploring the widest borders out of metal, with their How to Measure a Planet? and Themes from William Blake's Marriage of Heaven & Hell double opuses.

Like Katatonia's VE, The Gathering's Souvenirs is one of greater albums of 2003.
Waiting for Anathema to put a light on us too...

urrrr, Viva is shite.
and i bet the best albums for this year will be anathema, antimatter and the gathering... followed by Opeth - damnation and Type O probably

Albums of the year so far :

Opeth,Katatonia,TG,The Old Dead Tree

and later :

Anathema and Antimatter, well hope so !!!

Fuck I don't listen to man stuff anymore, what's wrong with me

there are better songs in souvenirs. even the spirits are afraid, broken glass, souvenirs, jelena (me fave one)...

but yeah, both ulver and the gathering are doing a very good job the past few years. hopefully they'll keep it up.

a life all mine is fucken ace! me fave at the moment, though i like the others as well. I'm curious about Ulvers next effort, i liked perdition city, and after the duet with Anneke i think Garm should sing a bit more on the albums...anyway lets see what will happen

Can't wait to buy the Gathering Album :hotjump:

don't have katataonia/the gathering, but with some songs on mp3 yeah can be my favorites for 2003 !!!! , a great for metal/rock

:headbang:

oh forgot, hope the anathema/antimatter albums will be in my top fav.!!

The gathering gets on my nerves already, although the new one is musically good, Anneke's horrible voice has to permeate it. I once though, circa '96, that she was the loveliest female singer =(

Ulver has been releasing crap too (last good album was "themes..." and it's actually the best)

but i like the track on the new gathering disc.

Cmon, that was funny and all but seriously. listen to her voice on "mandylion" and "Nighttime Birds" and listened to how it changed on the last few albums. She's whiny and nasal and her vocal technique she uses sucks (if she is being "trained" someone please shoot the instructer) she once had a beautiful voice (and it still shines through on the new album...at times) but it has turned to shite.

He supposed the insidethefall baoy was deaf... :D
Anyway, top albums of the year so far:

The Devin Townsend band "Accelerated evolution"
Soilwork "Figure number five"
Strapping Young Lad "SYL"
The Gathering "Souvenirs"
Opeth "Damnation"
Aborted "Goremaggedon"
Porcupine tree "In abstentia"

I don't agree sorry. I think she had and still has a marvelous voice. It's just that she's softer now, less lyrical. More emotional, IMO. But it's just a matter of tastes I guess. Her voice has changed indeed but I don't think it has decreased in terms of technique. She uses technique with more parsimony now I think. I dunno, I mean I'm not a singer specialist but her voice still moves me the same as before.

Cheers

Cedar, i take no offense and we agree on some good bands, I will listen to the new gathering disc more. I was pleasently surprised by it (I really thought the last two were crap) I still think verbeke (don't know if thats spelled right, tristania) , cristina (lacuna coil), michelle loose (brave) and Amy (evanescence) are much better singers. Her voice on mandylion still melts my heart though =)
