Since we're discussing tr00 black metal warriors Zyklon, is their second one better than the first? That album wasn't all that special.

Favorite black metal....

Sacramentum: far away from the sun,the coming of chaos,thy black destiny. The Coming of Chaos,The Black Destiny are more dark thrash/death with black metal overtones. Far away... does sound like straight black metal.
Sentenced: north from here. darkened death/black
Mayhem: de mysteriis dom sathanas.
Dissection: the somberlain,storm of the light's bane
Immortal: pure holocaust. Have not heard the first one but this album has perfect raw production. The drums especially sound awsome.
Necrophobic: The Nocturnal Silence,Darkride. ALL actually. I would considered Necrophobic a death/black metal hybrid.
Diabolical Masquerade: Ravendusk In My Heart,The Phantom Lodge
Darkthrone: a blaze in the northern sky
Burzum: Det Som En Gang Var. I thought varg & his band sucked for awile.
Goatwhore: The Eclipse Of Ages Into Black
Naglfar: pariah.
Lord Belial: nocturnal beast.
Necromantia: malice IV
Unanimated: in the forest of the dreaming dead,ancient god of evil. Death/black metal

I'm not exactly huge on black metal but more into it say than in the past.

I'm forgetting that death/thrash/black metal band with the guitarist for mayem & also fenriz. Can't think of the name right now.

I'm not really a big fan of Black metal at all, especially not the uber-necro, under produced, three Norwegians in a tin shed playing banjo and bashing biscuit tins variety. That being said, my favourites would be:-

Celtic Frost - (Of course!)
Mercyful Fate
Mayhem
Dissection (if we are calling them black metal)
Frost

and, um.... Emperor, though I'm not a huge fan of theirs.

I guess much of the broo-ha-ha about what makes black metal so great kind of passes me by.

Bathory was first a raw black metal bands, then turned to Viking metal, which Quorton has created, he was the first to introduce this genre, later he has made some trash albums, and returned to viking, but Bathory is still the king of viking metal, i haven't heard any bands who surpass him.
