So, what's Opeth's greatest separate "verse" (dunno if I should call it that, noob with music stuff).

I can't decide which one's better but here's two my favorites:

Black Rose Immortal:
I have kept it
The amaranth symbol
Hiddin inside the golden shrine
Until we rejoice in the meadow
Of the end
When we both walk the shadows
It will set ablaze and vanish
Black rose immortal
(surprise!)

Nectar:
Bring me through
Carry my empty shadow
And guide me inside your warped labyrinth
To the well of sin
I swear I will always love you

Of course those are not only about the lyrics but the general impression.

I have kept it
The amaranth symbol
Hiddin inside the golden shrine
Until we rejoice in the meadow
Of the end
When we both walk the shadows
It will set ablaze and vanish
Black rose immortal

Ahhh I so agree with this part. That melody is so...compelling. I would also add:

I awoke from the miasma
Passing swiftly through the moor
This is here, waters stir
And in the distance all that was lost
If you'll bear with me
You'll fear of me
You'd never leave me to
A fate with you

We walked into the night
Am I to bid you farewell?
Why cant you see
that i try
when every tear i shed
is for you?

The Black Rose Immortal one which has already been mentioned, is superb.

I just tried to type my favourites out, but I realised that I'd have to type about 40 verses...

Heh, exactly the same occurs when trying to list the favorite tracks.. you got to list them all.

I loved those two verses that Apoc posted. I also like the 3rd verse in The Drapery Falls

There is failure inside,
This test i can't persist.
Kept back by the enigma.
No criterias demanded here.
Deadly, patterns, made my wreath, prosperous in your ways...
Pale ghost in the corner, pouring a caress on your shoulder..

I also like the end of The Amen Corner.

And so I rose from my sleep, the moon turned away its face.
Overture, of a long black night, begins, I heard you say..
"eery circles upon the waters..."
Until now we have shared the same aura,
my ashes within your hands.
My breath in the sepulchral mound, you know that your night is my day, the final spark that blew life into me,
the demon of the fall.

Lethe78 said:
Darkness encloses
And the candle seemed to expire in her
Cold cold hand
And
As a forlorne soul
It will fade away........

Ah that's a good one, and the growls just after that.. so desperate.

The rain was waving goodbye, and when the night came
the forest folded its branches around me.
Something passed by, and I went into a dream.
She laughing and weeping at once: "take me away".
I don't know how or why, and I'll never know WHEN.

Fucking KICKASS

Thought I could not leave this place on this imminent day,
As I reach the final dawn to what's gone astray.
What would they care if I did stay?
No one would know, Ohhhhhhh-ohhhhhhh.
What would they care if I did stay?
No one would know, Ohhhhhh-ohhhhhhh.

:worship:

"Sunbirds leave their dark recesses
Shadows gild the archways

Do not turn your face towards me
Confronting me with my loneliness
You are in a forest unknown
The secret orchard
And your voice is vast and achromatic
But still so precious"

These verses from BRI are by far the most poignant and introspective moments of Opeth's career. Also, the ones that make me wanna sigh in grief...

Run away, run away. Just one second, and I was left with nothing. Her fragrance still pulsating through damp air. That day came to an end. And she had lost in me, her credence.

and

There is no forgiveness in these eyes
For any of you but one
Dispel the mist for now
Melinda is the reason why I've come

The whole part here with the acoustic guitars and the ohhh ohhh.... you know. it rules.

and

Spiralling to the ground below
Like Autumn leaves left in the wake to fade
away
Waking up to your sound again
And lapse into the ways of misery

i just reallly love the dynamics of this part. it's awesome.

There is simply too many but I do like this one.

Leave it be
It was meant for me
Soul sacrifice
Forgot the advice
Lost track of time
In a flurry of smoke
Waiting anxiety
For a fair judgement deserved.

I'll have to go with the two bonus tracks off the deluxe version of Blackwater Park. All the lyrics are great, in my opinion, and there's one line from each song that always get to me. I always envision these songs being played at my funeral and such, and I get this strong imagery...

From "Still Day..."

Will ever the morning/carry away/souls of those for whom we cry...

And from "Patterns in the Ivy II"...

...a poison seethes with my veins
This skin is old and stained by late September rains
The final word for me will be the first for you
The rest is long, but I'll go on inside and through

 Gets me everytime.

The Only way to follow is really awsome

In this forest- the 13 second growl in that is soo badass

Windowpane- Inside Play a lullabye, slurred voice over children cry?? ( is this right )??

those seem to get me all the time as well as a few others

Sorry to bump but...
