The headliner that got away.....

Thanks for trying Glenn, I've seen Dio 3 or 4 times and he's always been excellent. I'm know i've seen the "Sacred Heart", & "Dream Evil" tours, and once or twice more recently (where he played one of his recent albums all the way through from start to finish, it was painful cause the album sucks, but he still performed well and sounded great).

Savatage (w/Criss Oliva R.I.P.)
Megadeth
Dio

simply insane

Yeah...the Dream Evil tour...we were booked as the 2nd night on the tour, but they discovered they couldn't move the set around as easily as they thought...and cancelled...

Got to see Savatage (Mountain King tour) and Megadeth (So Far, So Good) tear up an old movie theater (relocated venue) from the front row.

While it sucked to miss Dio (seen him a million times since...and still love it)...that was an awesome show. The process at the door was hilarious...just present your ticket...get a partial refund (in cash)...and haul ass to the front...aahh, I can still remember the whiplash!

Rock on!

I'm an old fart. I saw the Holy Diver tour with Y&T opening (Touring for Mean Streak, I believe) :)

Speaking of old farts, Humble Pie actually opened for Dio when he played Atlanta on the Holy Diver tour! I don't know if it was just because Steve Marriott was living here at the time, or if Humble Pie actually did other shows with them...would have been cool to see, nonetheless. I, like Bryant, didn't get to see Dio the first time until The Last in Line, with Dokken opening.

I was one year behind you. I saw him on "The Last in Line" tour, with Dokken opening ands supporting "Tooth and Nail."

Bryant

I saw that tour at Poplar Creek, and I have NO idea who opened. I thought it was Loudness, but they opened for AC/DC........Killed WAYYYYY too many brain cells since then...I'm positive it wasn't Dokken, at least not in Chicago...Hmmmm

That's an odd pairing.......Still would have been cool to see.
I still think the most diverse tour I saw was the Michael Schenker Group opening for Molly Hatchet, would have been Beatin' The Odds for MH and the MSG (2nd)album for Schenker. It was a GREAT show for me, since I was, and still am a fan of both bands.

We used to always get the odd pairings down here; when Black Sabbath came through on either the Heaven and Hell or Mob Rules tour (I forget which one), they had Doc Holliday (from Macon) opening the show!

I definitely would have loved seeing Schenker with Molly Hatchet  While I definitely prefer DJB, that would have been cool to also see the Jimmy Farrar lineup.

The first time I finally got to see MH was with Blackfoot and Stranger opening (seems like that was around '83, after DJB was back).

I saw that show as well, it was in a bowling alley in Dallas of
all places; killer show...

Dio tours constantly, so though it would be cool to see him, it would have to be something really special for a festival like this. Perhaps Glenn was trying to arrange for Dio's solo band to play an entire set of Sabbath tunes. That would have been worthy of one of my many left testicles on offer for kick-ass bands. I only have one right testicle, so that would be reserved for a Rainbow set. Crimson Glory was another one of those kind of bands (don't give up, Glenn!).

Stay metal. Never rust.

 Yeah!! Bronco Bowl!! They have since added a venue on the end that holds probably 500 people. I think that's closed now. Last show I saw there was Savatage P & M tour (sadly - their last tour).

I have seen Dio live before. I rather have Jorn, no love lost for me :D
