the MARSHALL appreciation thread!

It was good enough for Chuck Schuldiner...

Still think the first Valvestates were some of the SS greats, that, the GKs, the Randall RG100ES and the Ampeg VH140c of course.

agreed the first, and even second series ones were great (the good 2nd series ones were the 100w heads and amps IMO).

I have the 8080 head and its a great little work horse!!

bets Marshall clean i've heard was from my old 4100 JCM900, the OD channel was appalling but the clean was great!!

My '77 JMP 2203

Have owned 4 1970's Marshalls including 2-'78 JMP 2203's (1 was modded and 1 stock) but they are long gone.
Would have hung onto the stock '78 but it was stolen. The only one I still have is this '77 JMP 2203.
First Marshall I bought...this one did a shitload of live gigs and only the EL34's have been changed, everything else is stock-original.
But the stock '78 was my favorite.

I read somewhere that the 4100 was basically a first gen VS preamp mated to the same power section that has been in every 100W Marshall since the 2203. Don't hold me to it, but I think it explains why the 4100 suffers such a love-hate relationship. I still think the 4100 is a damn fine live amp..for Black Metal maybe hehe.

yeah i had no quarms with the power section, used to run my pod into the fx return live, sounded immense!!!! infact one of my better live tones back then!!

thinking about it, the OD channel does have the shit qualities of my VS65R amp, which has an appauling drive channel too!!

Plugged into my SL-X today for the first time in a while, man... it's AWESOME!

I'm taking it to rehearsal on Wednesday for sure :)

balls.
Think my Mullards are on they way out...
Much craclking and popping at the last practice!
