The Mundane And The Magic

I don't think female vocals are back.. mikael said that there will be no clean vocals in it because everyone's doing that.. so, being female vocals usually clean, and being used by just every single band these days, I guess there won't be any..

There are in fact going to be clean vocals, IIRC Mikael had said it to the guys that arrange "Close-up båten", and they wrote it on their website.

wtf that's strange.. in july, during my interview, he said he was really thinking about it.. then in another interview released some weeks ago he said there won't be any clean vocals at all.. now again it looks like there will be clean vocals...

mikael seems pretty much confused and confusing :loco: :loco: :loco:
anyway I don't want anders friden in it.. but maybe angela gossow would be cool.. they're labelmates after all :)

well lets summon all guests on DT albums:
some female singers on all albums until projector, and our beloved Anders F. in hedon and some other guys. thats it?
anyway angela would be cool, but Anders and Mikael together in one song like shadow duet would be awesome

Concerning the mystery of clean vocals, as far as I've been able to collect from various tidbits in interviews here and there, some of the songs recorded had (or were supposed to have) clean vocals, but it appears they have been left out from the album (much like happened back in 2000 with Haven) and will perhaps be released as "b-sides" or something. I'm not sure about this, though.

Whereas I'm at least 99,9% certain that "The Mundane and the Magic" will not be the title of the next album.

Oh, and in addition to the aforementioned Anders Friden (on Hedon), and the four female vocalists (on the first four full-length albums), at least the following persons have appeared on DT records: Fredrik Nordström (keyboards on various early albums), Stefan Lindgren (additional vocals on Shadow Duet), Frasse Franzen (Timpani on Mine is the Grandeur...), Michael Niclasson (backing vocals on Zodijackyl Light back when he wasn't in the band!).

:OMG: What the hell? What time in the song does Friden sing exactly? Is it clean or death vocals? I heard that Niklasson sings but never knew that he did backing vocals on Zodijackyl Light, I have also heard that he might do vocals on the new album. I hope Friden does something on the new album like his classical growls on The Jester Race, especially on ''Dead Eternity'', the vocals on that album is one of the best I heard if not the best. Though on Whoracle, his vocals changed a bit and didn't do any growling at all.

What time in the song does Friden sing exactly?

"Hedon,
rinsed in post-human shadows
a monument scorned by the teeth of time
Stale-faced keeper of secrets,
loaded with implosive fire
the whore that carried the apostle
to the mating point on the graves of giants"

That's the part he sings, the "mantra" voice, as it is mentioned in the booklet.

What is wrong with you? I hope Friden stays the fuck away from DT. Isn't ruining Skydancer and most of In Flames' records enough for you?
I said doing the same vocals he did on The Jester Race not his vocals now. He didn't ruin Skydancer, he made it one of the best albums. In my opinion, I like Friden's vocals back in the old albums era more than Stanne's, it's just my opinion.

It's not 1993... and Friden has somewhat unique voice. But what could fish possibly know about sound and singing per se, anyway?

I'd say ask Ulysse.

IMO, Friden might have a unique voice, but it's a boring one. If I dare start yet another polemic, I'd say that vocal-wise, the best IF record is Lunar Strain.

But now is now, and not the Jester Race era. So i still hope he stays away. As far away as possible.

99% of DT fans will agree that, indeed, he ruined it.

In my opinion, i like Stanne's vocals always more. In the old era too. Just my opinion.

Exactly what i've been saying. It's not '93. Friden is even worse now. If someone (ie you and blackash) likes Friden so much, they should go listening to In Flames and stop wishing this horrible plague upon DT.
And one more thing.. unique isn't always a good thing. ;)

I'd say ask Ulysse.

Actually, that's Mikael through a set of distortion effects. Anders' voice is just the "Hedon, hedon, hedon" chant in the background at some point.

I know you're right. But I wish if he can do his old vocals again.

His voice on Skydancer is amazing. At least don't say it in front of Niklas :p he's a really good friend of Dark Tranquillity. I mean A Bolt of Blazing Gold and Crimson Winds are just awesome - because of Anders' vocals.

But Anders doing his vocals that he does now on DT would be horrible.

Oh, I had always thought it was exactly the part eRraZib_ENo quoted! Thanks for the correction. It seems there are still a few things for me to learn...

And as far as Anders' vocals go, I agree with Siren 100%. Mikael was always the superior vocalist, even in the early days.

Anders' voice has been 2 steps below if compared to Mikael's since the late 80s.. now it's like 15 steps below.. he's a great guy, friendly and really kind, and I admire him as one of the best front men out there.. but, no, the voice is not very good!

hey there are still so much unsolved mysteries in DT-songs, now one less on the list. thx niklas for clearing up the hedon thing.
anyway If anders would sing the media has spread it around since some months, as IF are now well known everywhere and in the eye of the metal paparazzi. but a second shadow duet, I would like it
