The new chat thread - now with bitter arguing

I completely agree that Projector is one of the most relevant, greatest albums in history. Damn, going from The Mind's I (which I love, mind you), Melodic Death Metal at its best, to… well whatever genre Projector is (Masterpiece genre :p . Perhaps Alternative Death Metal?). However, I don't think they take stuff from Nu metal, and I also believe that Amon Amarth is an incredibly over-rated band (great live, but nothing more, at least for me).

I must admit, though, that I've been listening to a lot of SoaD lately.

Can't say I agree with anyone on Projector. Nether Novas is one of my favorite DT songs, but I'm gonna have to go with my first impression of that album, many years ago... deep disappointment. Found it very underwhelming, and found the clean singing really awkward. Stanne just hadn't developed enough to pull that album off.

Now, I'm of the opinion Haven was as awesome as it was because Projector existed. Not every album is necessarily a success because it's good. I mean, it's not like Kiss, who did a disco album and half the band threatened to quit because even some sellout, no talent cockfaces have limits. It was a growing experience, and the band was better for it.

But on its own? Don't feel like it was a good album at all, relative to DT or anything else that came out that year.

So I was listening to Alice Cooper today (because he is awesome). I was listening to his feminist anthem Every Woman Has a Name. I got the chorus stuck in my head. Then I got another song stuck in my head because they have the same melody (for a few seconds).

When Alice sings "Small town débutantes or queens" here it has the same melody as when Emiliana Torrini sings "Between the pleasure and the pain" here. Both lines are at the beginning of their respective choruses.

I just thought that was interesting and that I would share it with everyone.

Don't know if anyone is interested, but check out the news on this new band:

"The group's lineup is as follows:

* Marco Aro (FACE DOWN, ex-THE HAUNTED) - Vocals
* Jesper Strömblad (ex-IN FLAMES, DIMENSION ZERO) - Guitar
* Glenn Ljungström (ex-IN FLAMES, DIMENSION ZERO) - Guitar
* Alex Losbäck Holstad (ex-DESPITE, DECAMERON, CARDINAL SIN) - Bass
* Chris Barkensjö (CARNAL FORGE, GODSIC, ex-GRAVE) - Drums

More information on THE RESISTANCE will be made available soon."

Photos of Mikael reminds me, there's actually one on Failblog.

It's not terribly obvious, but I remember seeing the photo set that that's from on some DT fan site around this time last decade. As I recall, Mikael was teaching a fan or friend about the whole beer-bong thing, when the "fail" shown in that picture happened. That's why I remember it. While you can't see his face, the redhead in the foreground is definitely Mikael.

Funny thing is, I found that by going to the oldest page on Failblog and reading through towards the present. It's currently on page 1165 of 1169; meaning that Mikael is basically in the corner of a photo, turned away from the camera in the earliest days of one of the biggest sites on the Internet. I hope I can be that famous one day. Or something.

Does anyone know who the other guy is? Is it one of you?

Epic! Thanks for the info, I find it rather interesting. I've no idea who the other guy is, probably a drunken Swede, or maybe our moderator?
