The new Nevermore album is Godly

Another wonderful album from the mighty Nevermore. This permanent pairing of Jeff Loomis and Steve Smyth has proven quite a good decision. This album contains the trademark Nevermore sound and heaviness, but returns for more of the Dead Heart/Dreaming Neon style songwriting as opposed to the more chaotic Enemies. The album's theme is very dark (The title says it all); There is not one dull moment on this record. My favorite track I would have to say is the final (title) track, This Godless Endeavor. I can't wait to see some of these new songs performed live. Although they only get a half an hour at Gigantour, I'm sure it's going to be well worth seeing; The last time I saw them live many of their songs sounded even better live than on the albums. Cheers!

It's my favorite disc of 05' so far. I'd be suprised if anything else caught up with it.

What's so cool about this disc is that it's pretty intricate and actually grows on you. It's got shelf life, and is interesting enough to keep one listening for a long time. One the first few listens I wasn't quite sure how I was feeling. A couple more and i knew Nevermore had a monster on their hands.

For me it's strong start to finish. It's one seamless effort, and plays so well from beginning to end. Dare I say .... masterpiece ? My favorite track is the title track. That's a wicked ass epic for Nevermore.

I think it's going to end up ranking with DNB and DHIADW as my favorite Nevermore disc ever. It might surpass Dead Heart, but DNB might edge it on my personal list. Still, I'd highly recommend it.

I'll check it out. While I was kind of interested in some of their earlier stuff, I wasn't enthralled with the songs I checked out from 'Enemies Of Reality' (yes the remaster)....but I'll try it. It'll might be hard to get into the top five this year though....lots of competition. ^_^

alas, the much heralded Curufin...

Nevermore destroys, a band truly bring old and new school values to metal and music in general. It's refreshing to hear them, with every listen. New album is great, really great stuff. It's not generic, it's not cliched. It is heavy.

I personally found the CD to be very boring. Production was excellent but the music was really uninspiring. I found my self pulling out old testament CD's and re-listening to those as a reminder when thrash was entertaining.

Give it a few spins. This disc doesn't have the immediate impact of "Dead Heart". However, after a few spins, it begins to reveal itself in an incredible way. Warrell is in top form, Loomis and Smyth play off each other wonderfully and Williams in a f**kin monster. There are no weak songs here.

Awesome album. The riffs on My Acid Words and Psalm Of Lydia are incredible, Born and Medicated Nation are monstrous but as strong melodically as anything on Dead Heart, Bittersweet Feast is as dark as anything on DNB, etc. And the section of the title track between the fifth and eighth minutes could very well be the sickest music they've ever recorded.

it does indeed slay... a great comeback for them after the lackluster Enemies of Reality.
I agree with that thought a lot. EoR never really worked for me in a big way. It's got some cool tunes, but for me it was a definate step back in quality from the couple previous masterpieces. I do enjoy the redone version a lot more than the original muddy sounding garbage that came out of Kelly Grey's knob turning, but the disc is severely lacking in top line Nevermore catchiness. Luckily they have rebounded in a big way on TGE.
