Actually I happen to think that I do know what "doom" is, in terms of the musical genre and whatnot, and we're not it, and don't claim to be.
Well suffice to say this isn't the first time someone has tried to argue regarding the word "doom" in our name and the kind of music we play in comparison. By calling ourselves Novembers Doom, we never intentionally set out to be pigeonholed into any musical genre or category, especially "doom metal". It's something that others have taken upon themselves to categorize us as. Christian Death aren't death metal, Megadeth aren't death metal, etc. Cliche as it might seem to say this, we write and play what we like, whether it's fast or slow doesn't matter as long as it's a part of us. Some people don't like our faster direction, that's okay, it happens. But also remember, you can't simply judge the whole album by one new tune you've heard, either. There's still plenty of elements in our songs that could appeal to people's "doom" sensibilities. But if you're looking for a band who play at a snail's pace and are true doom metal purists or some such thing, then I'd advise taking a pass on us.
Tais, you said "...the records are great", and I thank you for that. Ultimately at the end of the day, whether you call it doom or death or gobbledygook, what matters is whether or not you think the music is good, right?
And, in keeping with this forum, let me just say that Dan did an amazing job for us on this new disc. I didn't think he could top himself but I feel that he did! Here's hoping we get some new death metal music from Dan himself sometime soon....
