Behind the mist.
I know some of you guys are into writing, so post stuff here for discussion! Let me kick this off with a recent peice of mine. I don't know if it's any good, but I like it (I guess). This thread has great potential, let's not fuck it up please.

Untitled

By the shore,
There is a flickering sense of wonder towards the heavens.

Waves act with their own sense of unconventional wisdom,
Guiding an aurora between the crests of mankind’s forgotten host,
The forgotten connection
Of the peaks,
And the snow.
Of fine frost and the moonlight,
Still generating a mysticism that many just can’t figure out.

It seems as if we would rather play in the heat of creation
And no longer in the shade of Earth’s sculptures.
We wait for a warning,
Any sort of sign that it’s time to stop and turn around-
Making excuses to reap what we have not sowed.

The warning is here, it is time to turn around.
The sky is falling,
And the grass has filled you with green content.
The forest’s seasonal push is not immortality.

One year, painted leaves will fall,
And they will never again stand tall.

These leaves…
Through the Earth I will follow,
Through every last hill and hollow.

thanks! by the way dude, I never really got around to reading that story you sent me (I didn't forget about it). To be 100% honest with you, I blame it on the fact that I do many drugs. That story isn't very easy to read while on drugs. I will do it soon...

I tried to do the Keats/nature thing during high school. I can only laugh at most of it now. Good thing I know how to write fiction, cause I sure as shit can't write poetry!

I.
Summer’s slow death brings preparation;
Now he lies, his tomb prepared, a soft
Bed in the slow earth, melting leaves and
Cool showers in dark hours
A funeral dirge for the dying light.
The sun not so powerful
In his cruel throne, his harshness corrupted
By traitorous clouds of mercury and
Ethereal afternoon dust, sees that his
Might, once unchallenged, is now
Brought to dubiousness and fading will.
The planets that grind on their axes of bronze
Reroute themselves to the queen of the hour
Hoping to gain favor from her appeasing breast.
Night, her arms enfolded in a shawl of cloves,
Opens wide unto the precious lunar flowers
Who hail the coming of her kingdom with faerie lutes
And chemical stars under the sedge of sound.
The murky dawn is a sad reminder of a power
Of formidable sway now fallen
Victim to her Dark Genesis.

II.
The hazing sky, blurred by the bounties of forbidden plant,
Watches bramble fire dancing coy on the cliff’s brittle side.
The hay, severed like a lover’s broken ties, lies wounded
Beneath the body of its brothers.
Love, once promising, bears dry fruit
Untouched by afternoon downpours
And scorched by the heat of waiting.

I have more recent ones (MFJ has seen them) but composing poetry is definitely not something I do well.

Man, that's really not too bad on the first read! Way better than mine...

and btw, Dick's newer stuff is GOLD. seriously.

I suck at writing poetry. I enjoy some of it, but not much.

I tried to write a story/book when I was younger (10ish?) but I got bored around page 120.

Already posted this in the musician forum but what the heck

Gaze

The crimson Orb doth shine on its upward path
Manifold dying shear Tongues chase an arclite-shaft
A Blazon’d in the Northern sky for aught to see
Aye, but tis Naught nor but silt next to thee

Autumn’s Aurora ‘shrines its last wretchèd loom
The singèd eyes of the Beholden do consume
Bloodred corpses have painted what ere were green
But match’d with thine Eyes, immortal beauty be but fiend

The steeliee rapiers of nature’s torpor foal
Shrieking ghoul winds part the morbod whole
Staggered Ancients guard the secreted swoon
Silent lids watching below my Funeral Moon.

---yes I stole some album titles It's supposed to be about seasonal change/love poem.

MFJ:

Haha, not really. It's not completely asinine and cliche, but it's far from anything considered "good" nowadays.

God, that old one is so stereotypical... "like lover's broken ties"

Hahaha, no problem man. I think I've changed some of it since then anyway.

Oh yeah, I got into Senior Honors Fiction Writing last week... top 12 writers at the university in my class... year long course. I might begin a novel, or just something for grad school.

God, I sound like a stuck-up kid whose father writes for TV...

I saw that in your away message (yes I stalk you), congrats! That's really excellent...

btw since we're talking about school acceptance, I got into the University of Maine's Forestry and Natural Sciences college! :kickass:

Congratulations! Are you going to study biology or to be a ranger of some sort?

I'm actually not sure if I want to go to UMaine. If I go to Alfred University (in New York), I can get a degree in General Science (which covers physics, biology, earth science, and chemistry) and minor in astronomy (they have their own observatory!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Should I decided to do forestry and wildlife biology, Maine will definitely be the spot. To properly answer your question, I want to be a ranger of some sort indeed.

Then again, if I get accepted from the UVM waitlist, I'll fucking go there in a second.

Definitely... they sent me some sort of yearly publication by the Forestry/Natural Science/Agricultural/Woodsman/related etc department and it all looks great. Thanks!

I wrote a poem about jerking off while hungover once.

Perhaps I'll find it and post it later.
