The outsider opinion?

What I have seen in the circles that I am in is that the earlier acts will save your bacon. Redemption and Threshold, with mild interest in Firewind and Virgin Steele, is what is powering this fest. Sonata is not generating much buzz at all. After Forever is surprisingly quiet.

Most comments l've noticed have been relatively positive. Not gushingly so...but still positive. It seems most are centered around Vanden Plas & Threshold...some leaning toward Redemption. But, l've seen absolutely nothing on the Primal Fear /After Forever announcements & surprisingly little on Sonata Arctica. The lack of SA mentions baffles me abit, but that may be due to the fact that most know they will also tour. l'm not sure.

That has been my experience as well. I only know a handful of people who are aware of PP and aren't on the forum, but they seem very excited about Threshold, Vanden Plas, Redemption, and also Pagan's Mind. They, and I, think this year's line up is much stronger than last year's. Our tastes are more to the prog side though and last year's line up was pretty lacking in that area, so it's no surprise. One is also thrilled about Sonata Arctica, but they otherwise haven't been mentioned among that small group.

I have no idea about sellouts - I would guess that while Evergrey is a pretty big draw, both Sonata Arctica and After Forever would attract more interest than Jorn. It may just be my impression but both bands seem to get mentioned on a lot of various forums, probably have decent fan bases, and might cause this year's line up to sell out while last year's didn't.

Meh. You're letting 6 tickets rattle your confidence. Even if it didn't sell out quickly, which I find doubtful, you could still generate more local interest closer to the date. A couple pairs of tickets as "prizes" to Rock 103.7 in Athens and Project 96.1 (formerly 96rock) would get the word out. This fest happens every year without a large part of the local metal community knowing about it.

I doubt Project 96.1 would have even the beginnings of a clue. Atlanta is an especially lousy rock-radio market. Even if they accepted the tickets as prizes, they wouldn't play any of the bands and some bored Clear Channel deejay drone would announce the show in a listless voice......yeah, whatever.

Heck, they might even make fun of it, since none of the bands is known in the radio mainstream.

We'd be better off distributing flyers at Atlanta hard-rock and metal shows.

yeah, they're too busy playing Disturbed's version of 'Land of Confusion'. They used to play the crap out of Allman Brothers and Pink Floyd, and now it's all about Disturbed and... well, all I ever hear is Disturbed every time I turn it to that station, so I don't know if they even play anything else. :Smug:

damn skippy! :kickass:
