The photography thread

I've been recording a friend's EP (non-metal) over the last couple of days and taking some snaps at the same time. Very low lighting most of the time so it's pretty tricky work!

Thinking about getting a camera. Are there any affordable ones that can shoot decent videos as well? I mainly need it for indoor photos and recording footage. I'm OK with buying second-hand. Not set on any brand yet, but I suppose it would be nice if I could borrow some of the lenses my brother bought for his d7000. All suggestions are appreciated.

Whats your budget? Since your brother has a Nikon (and i'm also more into Nikons) you can look at the beginner models from Nikon: D3100, D5100 or D3200.

I own the D5100 which has a rotatable screen (nice for shooting video's), and even with the standard kitlens you can shoot great pictures at high ISO levels:

One thing: Your brother's D7000 has a built-in focus motor (the D3100, D3200 and D5100 don't have a focus motor). So you have to check that the lenses he owns have a built-in focus motor, or else you have to manually focus. All Nikon lenses with AF-S have a built-in focus motor.

Budget's pretty tight to be honest. Might have to save up for a D3100 and grab one new, since good video quality seems to be a fairly new thing for affordable DSLRs, so there are hardly any second-hand offers. I don't mind using manual focus as I won't be dealing with too much movement.

Ended up grabbing a Nex-5 body for ~€160 and a €15 M39 adapter so I can use an old Jupiter-8 lense I borrowed.

It's not amazing I guess but video quality is great. I'll upload something when I have better lighting. Still learning and had to test it indoors with really bad lighting but to give you some idea:

Pretty girl, and beautiful portraits. That Nex5 can make great pictures, who needs a huge dslr now?

The first one is nice, but all your pictures have a weird nasty quality thing going on. Thats probably your upload service (Facebook?), but i also see some ugly blur (noise reduction?) + your copyright logo is annoying and ugly and it really brings the whole picture down.
