Man, just have a look at Australia. Here, they've actually made it illegal for doctors, nurses and care workers to speak out against what is going on in the detention centres here. Anyone who does risks jail time. If that'd happened in Europe there would have been riots. But we (well, those of us here who actually give a fuck at all) just sit about starting Facebook petitions instead.
I don't really have an opinion on what happened with the comedian dissing the Turkish president. There are fucking shitloads of Turks in Germany though, so perhaps it was a bit of a 'damned if she does, damned if she doesn't' type thing.
I think a lot of what she's done (and he reason she's gotten away with it) is because Germany still lives with the shame of what the Nazis did and they want to appear to be more accepting of others. Unfortunately the whole thing has backfired because of Merkel's naivety or stupidity. Calling the refugees a bunch of rapists publicly makes everyone extremely uncomfortable because the last thing Germany wants is to be seen as is racist. Covering it up has probably only made things worse, though. Many people on the left there completely changed their views on refugees after NYE in Cologne and the subsequent coverup.
