The Political Compass

Try answering the questions only with strong agree or strong disagree. If you don't your results will indicate that you are a wishy-washy liberal :p Everyone in this thread pretty much received the same exact results.

^That might be because most of us are product of the same generation and thus we all share a similar mindset, looking toward the world from the same point of view. That said, I don't really consider myself a leftist as the chart shows. I'm more a centrist.

This is a really good site. Thanks for posting it Muffy. I always thought I would be leaning towards the right, but it turns out that's just the authoritarian part of me. So this is me:

Economic Left/Right: -4.12
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 3.33

Maybe you thought you would be a little more toward the right, but that's just the libertarian side of you. Like the site explained, everyone is accustomed to just seeing politics as leftist and right-wing. but we forget to add the social aspect to it (the authoritarian and libertarian parts). I think that was a pretty good test.

On economic issues, I am a centrist. The second time I took the test with answering only with strongly agree or strongly disagree I was actually put into the purple section. As for social issues and individual liberties, I am a total libertarian. Give me liberty or give me death!

Well you know that saying "ignorance is bliss?" I somewhat agree on that, because even right now, being the stupid Americans we are thanks to our media and our controlled news, we don't know much, but the majority of us are very pleased with living in this country. We used to think this was the greatest country and anything is possible here, blah blah blah. This is the reason so many immigrants wanted to come here, for freedom and opportunities. But a lot of these views are fed to us and we eat them up. Look at what has happened to our country this past week. The economy is in turmoil. So even tho you say "give me liberty or give me death," what you probably don't know is that there is no such thing as the definition of pure liberty. death itself is the only REAL liberty an individual can ever achieve. Just my thoughts.

Or perhaps I misjudged my antipathy toward marxism as antipathy toward leftism :p the same way I think a free economy CAN'T work (my current research area is game theory, and boy, are there some interesting theorems on free market issues), I think socialism is pure utopian childishness :p BUT, that was just a statement of opinion, not meant to start a debate on communism vs capitalism - those are old and worn.

not only is socialism pure utopian childishness, but so is communism. the fact is, humans are power-hungry by nature. I don't think the human race could ever achieve true equality no matter how serious some people are about it. it would never work because of the greed that is characteristic of the majority of humans.
