The Prestige

Awesome. One of the Top 10 movies of this decade.

This film is brilliant for so many reasons. How many period dramas do you get dabbling in science fiction? And the dark vibe running throughout....well, that's Christopher Nolan for you. Just look at what he did with Batman Begins.

I did guess the ending about 3/4 of the way through, but it didn't matter to me. I was hooked to the last second.

Not near as good as The Departed and a handful of others from 2006, but still a good movie. The worst Nolan film, though.
I'm not sure what "other from 2006" you're referring to, but The Departed was average at best. Take away the big names and no one would have talked about that film. It was at least 30 minutes too long, with an ending that suggested they switched writers at the half way point.

You think The Prestige is worse than Insomnia?

that's exactly what I was thinking. I love all of christopher nolan's movies except for Insomnia. I could not get into it.

That being said, I think his first film, "Following", is absolutely fanfuckingtastic. The style (cut up) is what we later refined...but the story is so awesome.

and I have slight homo feelings towards christian bale *cough*

brilliant film ... haven't seen anything as moody in a long time.

David Bowie stole the show though

I often hear people complain about the ending to The Departed. While I agree with you in that the movie was above average, what was it about the ending that people hated so much?

Also, has anyone seen Infernal Affairs? Was The Departed an exact copy? Did they both have the same ending?

I fell victim to my own cardinal sin and watched a remake before the original. :( But I thought I'd cut Scorcese some slack because I was dying for a follow up to Goodfellas or Casino.

I'll still watch Infernal Affairs at some point. Probably when I get around to renting Old Boy.

Here's how it felt to me...

Hour 1 - very strong
Hour 2 - way, way, way too long
Last Half Hour - holy shit, we've got a movie that's 2.5 hours, let's wrap it up.

I'll admit that after watching 3 seasons of The Wire, The Departed did seem to fast at the end. The Wire just makes all crime movies/TV-shows seem pathetic in comparison.
