The problem with Tool

Who is Pavaroti?

By the way, you're completely wrong in most parts of your post.

At least I know who fucking Pavaroti is... Just joking. He's the stupid opera singer, I might have spelled his name wrong.

As far as my post goes.... I think it's sexy.

They are a fucking pop-rock band, but since one of the members has been sexually molested as a child that gives them the right to pretend to be "dark, demented and pissed off", therefore a majority of their stupid videos has to be censored, which would, of course, make them "cool".

oh for fucks sake don't talk about shit that you haven't got a clue of .

Some of the lyrics DO seem to read like a 13 year old girl's junior high school poetry notebook. I don't care about the lyrics. The sound they make is original, and, in the end just sounds good.

I saw Tool live at the Roskilde Festival last year. On one hand it was good with video shit, but on the other hand it was complete crap. The guys just stood on stage without moving at any time and the singer just stood way up back behind all the other guys singing only wearing underpants. I know that Tool isn't the kind of music that you slam dance to like Mayhem is, but at least they could have let us see them and see them play with a little passion instead of just trying to act weird. It all felt kind od corny to me. I was also told that they released a video where all the video from the concert is exactly the same as on the video! Hey, I'll rush out an buy it right now!
Their music is okay though, but I don't think I'll go out and buy any of their records though. I'll also agree that their riffs can sound similar though. I haven't heard any guitar shit that impressed me. If he's so good, why doesn't he show it? It's the same thing with Lars Ulrich from Metallica, being voted the best drummer in the word! Pfhf! He's so good why does he play the same rhythm that was the one I learnt the first time I picked up a set of drumsticks all the time? Luckily there aren't many people left who thinks that Lars Ulrich is great. He has become a joke among all the friends I have and for a reason!
Tools drummer is better I think, but I haven't heard him play anything that I couldn't replicate. He's of course better than Lars Ulrich, but if you ask me, Dennis Chambers beats him the Tool drummer by 324.236.479 miles!

The stuff I said about the video; I meant to write that the video might fit the music very well, but it didn't work to me. The guy who told me about the video release is as far as I know a big Tool fan and he was very dissapointed too.

I don't like Tool. I tried listening to them a while ago and I just couldn't get into them. I'm not going to senselessly bash them though. I don't care if other people like them and listen them, it doesn't really affect me. People can listen to whatever the fuck they want. I'll just say I don't like them and leave it at that.

i love tool, just saw them in concert and it was an experiance, i can tell you. and saying dennis chambers "beats" danny carey, first of all no-one said that he was technically the greatest drummer in the world, and secondly I dont think dennis chambers would fit with tool's music quite as well as danny does.

and despot, pop-rock?! what the fuck ARE you talking about?

Here's the way I see it.

Tool is an excellent band, that happens to be very popular. What's wrong with that? Most of the bands I listen to deserve more recognition then they get, IMO, so at least there is ONE band out there that is doing something unique, original, and experimental, but still EXCELLENT, in the MAINSTREAM! Would you prefer to have more Pearl Jam clones instead? More pseudo-angsty nu-metal crap bands?

If it wasn't for Tool, I probably never would have found Opeth, because I would have given up metal for dead. I owe alot to Tool, they are an excellent band, with an excellent vocalist. While I don't think they compare to Opeth, they are truly one of the few bands in mainstream music that are WORTH listening to.

When you look at from a certain point of view.
Tool is based on rhythmic beats and all the songs
are about mind expansion in some way (well mostly in their last two albums).
Relatively, when you have a look at Opeths standpoint, their music isn't as tribal.
Opeths songs are more structured withing themselves. This leaves a small margin for failiar on Opeths part so pull off what they do is damn near impossible. On the other hand, Tool isn't as structured, but the timing can be impecable. Even though the guitarist doesn't have the enormous talent that Akerfeldt or Lindgren or carry, he does seem to hold his own. All in all, if your looking for something to get your vibes going Tool would be your answer, but if you want something with harmony and beauty Opeth all the way.
In the case of lyrics, both are just too good.
It's all in what your in the mood for.
And besides, if it wasn't for Tool, I probably never would've gotten into Opeth in the first place.

I agree that Dennis Chambers probably won't fit Tool as good as Danny Carey, but in my opinion Dennis is a much better drummer, and as a drummer I'll sound corny and say "I know what I'm talking about". On the P-Funk All-Stars "Live at the Beverly theater in Hollywood" Dennis Chambers is tight, plays sick fills and also does metal like double bass drumming. Although Hellhammer (Mayhem, Arcturus, Kovenant) is one of my favorite drummers, Dennis Chambers is one of the only drummers who has impressed me technically. By the way, I did an interview with Hellhammer (who have played for 19 years) and asked him of his opinion on Dennis Chambers and he said: "Dennis Chambers is one hell of a drummer! He's an absolute monster!!!" and I couldn't agree more!
But anyway, it's basically a matter of taste, although technical levels aren't really...

Lyrics? Having fun is allowed in music, i have nothing against joke songs ( or even entire joke bands ) but as long as it doesnt mix up with the standart lyrics. Joke songs belong as bonus tracks or something, not in the middle of the cd.

As far as seeing them live, I saw them live, and was disgusted by the stupidity and violence of the fellow concert goers. Some asshole hit Maynard with a shoe (which pissed him off - he sat down, and wouldn't finish the song). On top of that, the mosh pit, was the most violent and ridiculous pit I've ever seen. People were just trying to hurt each other. They didn't give a shit about the music.

The most disturbing part of all, though, was the crowds reaction to the images on the video screen. EVERY time some kind of violent image would come up, the crowd would cheer. Even some appaling images (violence towards children, etc.) that was supposed to be shocking and appaling, elicited cheers. I lost alot of respect for alot of Tool fans that night.
