I never minded the Ramones. Like 'em better than the Sex Pistols, anyway. I'm more of a pop-punk, Blink-182/GC/NFG/Starting Line kind of guy, so...
The point is punk is what it is. Some people prefer a two/three chord, lame lyrics, "punk" band over cheesy pretentious metal, and that's perfectly okay. It's insulting a band for not being cheesy or pretentious that's bad. The Ramones might not have the sophistication or gR1mne$$ of Darkthrone or Spock's Beard or whatever, but expecting them to is missing the point.

Oh, btw, I think a lot of the comments made so far were out of line, and I applaud those attempting to do damage control.
