The what's going on in Thrash thread

Listened to the new Exodus album a few times on spotify. Will pick it up the next time I hit the record store. What songs do you hope they play live?

The guitar riffs and solos on this are a 10/10. Not sure about the vocals or lyrics yet. Prescribing Horror seems to be a standout track:kickass:
For me the real measure for quality of a record is a year from now when I want to scratch the Exodus itch. Will I reach for Persona Non Grata or go back to old favorites Tempo of the Damned and Bonded by Blood?

I'm going to the shop today to ask if there is any ETA on the actual album. They didn't have one on Saturday and they also didn't have any reasons

I think the vocals do grow, but can Zet do it live, there is a bit of up and down changing throughout the album. I suppose they wont have to play all the songs on the album live so I guess maybe they can pick songs his voice wont break on when it comes to live. I wouldn't mind hearing Lunatic Liar Lord live.

Yeah it's a bit hard to say this is the best Exodus album at this point. It's good, it might even be great but it needs time before it can be the best.

A few years back I was at a record store browsing and overheard some younger metal enthusiasts bantering as they browsed. One of them saw the Flotsam and Jetsam section and commented what a lame name it was for a metal band. His friend replied that Metallica's Jason Newsted used to be in the band and the guy did a 180 and decided to buy one of their albums.

I know the local record store has it. A FB friend I know from the local metal scene posted a picture of the signed cd booklet the record store was giving out with purchase of the album.

The marketing gurus at Metal Blade would be proud :)
In Australia Flotz really didn't have a huge following from Doomsday because they just didn't get air play. There was people who knew about them but they weren't talking about them being a huge band. Several years later when Metallica did their first tour here all we heard about was Jason's former band.

My store has a promo copy which is the LP's and a display, but they don't have stock and either they don't know why or they aren't saying.

My guess is the "Featuring Newstead" stickers were on multiple re-releases of the album around the time Jason was in Metallica. Doomsday has been officially re-released more than 20 times since 86. I bet a number of those releases fitted in with something Jason was doing. It was purely a sales thing nothing to do with how good he was.

I also wouldn't mind betting that with the number of times Metal Blade has re-issued the album they are one of the biggest pushes to keep Jason's name out there. Just as bands like Anthrax keep trying to remind people they were part of the Big 4 that really doesn't mean much to anyone, it's in MB's interest to remind people Jason was in Doomsday because they make more money out of it than anyone else.
Yeah I know it has really nothing to do with Jason and more to do with the Metallica name. And that it was business decision to bring in bucks, the Metallica name attracts attention no doubt. I'm just saying he had nothing to do with me finding and liking Flotsam back in the day. Sometimes people make it sound like his attachment is the only reason to pay attention to the band. But that wasn't the case for me or my friends. :)

It's not the first time I've heard that about the name. I saw the name and heard the music at the same time (video for Saturday's Alright For Fighting) so it was never an issue for me. I guess we know who we have to blame for the name huh? :p

We really didn't have much choice here, there was people who knew about Flotz before Metallica toured, but even after Metallica toured Flotz still didn't get a huge amount of coverage. I really don't think they've had that much press here until the last few years. They've always been Jason's old band with very few stories about them.

It's was pretty much the same here. There's not a lot of people that I've met that knew them. Unless the were a relentless (not to be confused with Repentless) Metalhead.

We've only had repentless metalheads since Kerry King invented the word and he probably only did it for money :)

Black Label comes out this week I think, different label so it will be interesting to see if theres a hold up on that one. I know there will be a hold up on the vinyl but I wont be buying that.

Wow! We have a date for the new album, well sort of.
Still not willing to name that bassist though.
The Sick, The Dying and The Dead is the new album title? Sounds like a description of the current status of Megadeth.

Seriously though, Dystopia was good. If we get another album of the same quality it will have been worth the wait.

The problem I see is that the build up has gone on for so long, the secret bassist bullshit has gone on for so long, everything has gone for so long that this album has to be a good one or Megadeth is pretty much over for a lot of people.
