The what's going on in Thrash thread

Man anyone who uses the term Boomer is a hipster dbag with an unnecessarily high opinion of themselves. Hi! Have you never heard these kinds of lyrics before? What do you want songs about? ...whatever the fuck hipsters like.
So they ragged on slayer and Exodus. Go get a different job.

It does seem to be almost universal that people don't like Zetro. At least in this age. That's not going to stop me. I do think Chuck could make anything better though. :)

They have now turned on Sneap...again. Sneap makes everything sound the same, Sneap has had his time etc etc. It's hilarious, there is almost no one even hinting that they like it, they are mostly just parroting each other with their dislike. Quote after quote of negativity and then one person says something positive and the post is virtually ignored.

Zetro is an acquired taste I think. The first listen and I could hear parts of his singing that just didn't seem to fit well, or they seemed wrong. But subsequent listens and I seem to forgive and forget. His melodic tone really works and the guy could probably make it singing without ever using his angry voice, but the music doesn't call for that.

If Sneap was any good he'd have tuned and mastered Zetro's voice to sound like Chuck, then done the same to Tom's drums so he sounded like Gene....hang on that's going a little far.

Listening now. Aside from the tracks already released. My favorites so far are, The Years Of Death And Dying and Lunatic Liar Lord.
Fuck man if Zetro stuck to his lower register more everything would crush.

Edit: The last half of the album is pretty good.

I'm kind of sitting in the first half at the moment. I like Prescribing Horror, Elitist and The Beatings...

Kind of lame that Newsted didn't mention Ed Carlson at all in the article.

They start out by saying how good Jason's memory is. I'm not putting the guy down, especially not given my memory at times, but is it really a case of his memory is that good, or is it a case of everyone else's memory is like mine and they don't question him?

You know what? I hate people. End of story. :)

Yeah I think the latter. He started off saying hw much younger everyone else was. But by the end they were all 20 lol. Man he really took credit for absolutely everything. Maybe he deserves it but sheesh. And yet NPFD is the better album imo.

It really did read like he was responsible for everything. As you say maybe he's right, but if it was coming from someone like Lars or Dave it would just sound like a major puff piece and ego stroke.

They should have asked him how it felt to be going from the all powerful band member to a lackey that got hazed mercilessly.

Haha yeah there is no doubt that they picked a topic he was able to boast about. Whether he did actually do everything or not at the end of the day what he did in those formative years of Flotz was a shit load more than he did for the next 10 or so years of his career.

As much as you I love Doomsday I will never quite understand how he has been linked over and over for decades to that one album when everyone else in the band is of equal talent! It also pisses me off that Carlson is never credited or even mentioned for the most part, just complete bullshit!!!

I agree completely! Not to mention that as good as the bass is on Doomsday he's actually the worst bassist they've had! Ward would play circles around him. I have no idea how after all the amazing albums they've done. Newsted is still the one that gets all the attention. And yeah. The Ed thing pisses me off too. He's as good as anyone and better than a lot. The whole thing is stupid. and you know I never saw a Doomsday record that said " Featuring Newsted" I didn't even know he was in the band until I bought Doomsday, after I already had NPFD.
I guess I take some comfort in the fact that Flotsam has such great albums and Newsted really only has that one. and then the notoriety of being in Metallica. I mean. Echo Brain anyone? His Listen To Metal album is cool. But it's not equal to Flotsam.

Edit: Shit, not to mention Troy Gregory! Awesome bassist!

Listened to the new Exodus album a few times on spotify. Will pick it up the next time I hit the record store. What songs do you hope they play live?

The guitar riffs and solos on this are a 10/10. Not sure about the vocals or lyrics yet. Prescribing Horror seems to be a standout track:kickass:
For me the real measure for quality of a record is a year from now when I want to scratch the Exodus itch. Will I reach for Persona Non Grata or go back to old favorites Tempo of the Damned and Bonded by Blood?

The way the article reads it's not really about talent but about Jason being the person who ran the band. The guy sounds like he ran the show like a tyrant and no one else had anything to do with the daily operations of the band. Whether that's entirely true I guess we'll never know but it many ways it's stories like that which make Jason look worse than anyone else in the band.

My guess is the "Featuring Newstead" stickers were on multiple re-releases of the album around the time Jason was in Metallica. Doomsday has been officially re-released more than 20 times since 86. I bet a number of those releases fitted in with something Jason was doing. It was purely a sales thing nothing to do with how good he was.

I also wouldn't mind betting that with the number of times Metal Blade has re-issued the album they are one of the biggest pushes to keep Jason's name out there. Just as bands like Anthrax keep trying to remind people they were part of the Big 4 that really doesn't mean much to anyone, it's in MB's interest to remind people Jason was in Doomsday because they make more money out of it than anyone else.
