The what's going on in Thrash thread

It is fun to shit-talk old Dave Mustaine and the deth, but I will say he is the first musician that left me awestruck after seeing them live. Way back in 2001 a month or two after 9/11 I saw them play a smallish theater with Iced Earth as support. Dave was a rock star on stage and he and the band made Iced Earth look like a local amateur band. I want to like them more than I do, but Dave being such a tool prevents that.

I first saw Dave in 91, didn't get to meet him (because he was too much of a rock star :) ). Actually him and Jnr did a meet and greet at the Melbourne Virgin Megastore and they were both quite approachable for those who could get in but the queue was thousands long. Back stage that night none of the band really wanted to talk and we were under orders not to fanboi them, we did see them, but not talk to them.

I then saw Dave play from side of stage at Soundwave in 2012, we did get a greeting from him that day but not a chat...fucking rockstars!! Those Soundwave events were a fucking night mare to help organise. The guy running them was ripping people off left right and centre, bands were getting pissed off and that showed back stage. I don't know if Megadeth were one of the bands that got stung, or even knew about it at the time but tensions were high with pretty much all the bands.

I still like what Dave and his band have done, I still like Dave and some of his antics, but I'll never forget his band introduction on that night in 91 when he finished introducing Nick, Marty and Jnr and ended with "You better know who the fuck I am". His ego is massive, but it's not entirely unwarranted.

And he's not without compassion, on the RIP tour in 91 he ordered the bouncers drag a guy in a wheelchair out of pit and let him watch the rest of the show from side of stage. I don't think he's a guy who forgives easy though.

I'll have to watch this in a couple hours. He's been hitting it pretty hard huh? That's a bunch of covers he's done recently. When I watch these I have to tell myself that he's purposely putting his own spin on. Otherwise I don't really like them.

Geez that's big news for the band. I wasn't a huge fan of their stuff when Testament took them on tour a few years ago, not sure that's going to change with Jon on drums since he played on the debut, but that's still a big win for them.

Oh I forgot about these guys! I think maybe I liked something they did but I don't really remember. That is a pretty good get! I guess that counts Dette out for Testament.

Wow, he's actually relocating here. That's a big move. The album better be good!

Oh for sure! Dave was in my top of favorites since87. It's only in recent years that everything that I dismissed or made excuses for before has really built to a ridiculous level with him, and my opinion of him. But one thing I haven't been able to bag on is his talent.

I can see that. Maybe because it was a smallish theater with more seats than pit area. I remember a lot of crowd interaction that night. And he might have been pissed. I remember at one point he said give this to all of your friends who missed this show tonight and then he flipped the audience the bird! :lol::headbang:

TBH I couldn't watch it. As much as I know Joey is getting old and his voice is not what it once was, I still think they guy is a great singer. Tracks like this really don't do him justice.

I think while they were thrash they were also a bit metalcore-ish and I couldn't get into them that much. I might give them another go soon and see if my thoughts have changed.

I guess if Dette was offered Testament he wouldn't be doing this band :)

I reckon around RIP he was interacting quite well. Still not as much as some singers but during our tour here he spoke between every second or third song. It was mainly about the upcoming song and there wasn't any political ranting, but he did have a good chat. I'm not sure he does that much now and I also don't think I've seen him pointing to fans, or singing directly too them as some singers do.

Oh and by the way, since you are over in the US can you tell your boss to quit looking in my bank account.
I got an email this morning from someone called SurveillanceLaw (stupid name for a person) telling me that Biden is looking in my bank account.
How fucking rude of him. I emailed him and expressed my annoyance and haven't get a response.
