The what's going on in Thrash thread

Our schools are just starting the second term of the year so the argument that it's early in the year and not going to a effect them much. But most experts are saying it's not only the education but all other forms of growing up that are being effected. I read a government report from one state the other day that put the risk to kids at school (both catching and spreading the bug) at about 0.4%. It was an extensive study and like all studies shouldn't be taken as 100% gospel but it's a hell of a low risk to up end so many kids and ruin an entire year. But it does seem like our state government thinks that the economy is going to be fucked so they may as well fuck the kids education as well.
I don't see the big deal. Anything they learn in school can be gotten off the internet. All the teachers have to do is send a lesson plan? It does suck that they can't spend time with their friends in class though.
I was reading about a Japanese island that was the first to start social distancing and shutting things down. They had the lowest infected numbers. They reopened because business were complaining and now the virus has busted back open worse than it was before.

Oh yeah, the media are running rampant with so many different stories almost like they are trying to confuse people. I'm sure the governments like a heard of confused sheep rather than have people think for themselves.
I don't think this is the time for people to be thinking for themselves. Forget the politicians. Listen to the scientists and health experts. their only job is to keep people safe.

School is as much about social skills as it is academic. The school work itself is only a minor part of schooling and the government only recommends 3 1/2 hours a day of actual education. But the problem many schools are facing is a massive technology black hole. Those who don't have internet, or a reliable service, those that don't have computers to get the work. Those who struggle with the work given who can't get onto teachers. In an ideal world all that could be solved, but practically we are far from solving it all.

The second wave of this thing has proven bad in some places and there is no guarantee it wont be like that anywhere but to my way of thinking it's not as simple as close everything. Governments need to give people something to look forward. Those governments saying they want to reopen and are looking at plans to do so have less dissent amongst people than those like this state that don't even want to give hints that things could reopen.

The only thing worse that not letting people think for themselves is telling them they can't think for themselves. I want the right to read, take in, whatever information I have access too. I also want the right to make up my mind about that information. I'm not going to go against laws simply because I disagree with them but I sure as hell want the right to disagree with them. Obviously some people think if a rule/law is wrong it's their right to break it, but those people are small in number and the idea that we have stop all thinking for themselves because a few are incapable of rational action after thought is bad in my book.

Well yeah I agree, but we're not talking about a huge amount of time in the grand scheme of things. I don't think these kids are going to turn into anti social mush brains lol.

The problem for me is it's becoming abundantly clear that many people use the thinking for themselves as an excuse to be a moron. They aren't reading news or paying attention they are just reacting to the loudest screamers. Sometimes people need protection from themselves. And this seems like one of those times. Other than that I'm American I'm born not wanting to be told what to do and expecting to think for myself lol. These are unprecedented times. It seems like normal people need protection from the idiots. Like for every normy there's 10 people acting like fools.

Well that depends how long things go on for. Our medical experts are now talking about mental and psychological issues in both adults and kids from isolation. We've already had one protest about remaining in isolation, we've got rich people who go to the beach in large groups, and we've got football players going on boozy boys camping weekends with illegal firearms. The silence from our government is doing as much damage to this country than the noise from your government is doing to yours.

I still think its a small number that do that. Our rich beach goers looked like a big group but 2000 of them is barely 1% of population in that area. Even those protests in the US that became world news last week most people understood was only a very small portion of America. There will always be some idiots and none of those small groups are good if even one person is infected, but I still think there is less of them than we give them credit for. I also think some of them can be de-idiot-atized by offering some information not just giving them orders.
