The what's going on in Thrash thread

Here's another stupid headline and comment. Since when have LOG been the choice for successor to Slayer? I don't even know if the world needs a successor just because Slayer retired, but I can't image LOG being that band.

That crap came about in an interview when Slayers last tour was still going. It was rejected then. I don't know why this numbnuts brought it back up. It's beyond ridiculous for so many..many, many reasons.

This is why bands should never retire, the decision about who takes their place is just too hard for people to agree on :)
Is he Chris' bother? Did he sack his own brother from the band?

The latest I've read is "musical differences" the old standby.

I know there has been plenty of bands with family members that have turned sour, and there is no way I could be in a band with my brother, but it's a shitty thing when it happens. Still it might be good for Chris, saves him living in Dave Lombardo's shadow when LOG take Slayer's place :)

I know, another Jr article about an album we probably won't see for another 6 months to a year. But it is good that they are really trying not to repeat themselves in any way. It's gotta be hard at album 16.

https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/david-ellefson-on-megadeths-upcoming-album-its-an-intense-record/

We might not hear the album in a hurry but we'll hear about it since it seems like Jnr is media whore #1 at the moment :)

I agree after that many albums it's gotta be hard, and to have album 15 so highly regarded following it up will have added pressure. I've seen Dave say it's not unlike following up RIP, only this time they are sober. Dystopia might not have been as big as RIP but it put Megadeth back in the minds of a lot of people and the pressure to follow that up is understandable.

I kind of wonder if that's part of Scott and Charlie's problem (even if its unspoken). They had more success with Kings than they have had for a long time. They might not have built hugely on that success by playing the same 40 min sets, but they had a record that was much more regarded than what they'd done for years. Having cold feet about following it up could be slowing them down.

Yeah I've wondered that a little about Scott and Charlie. They keep waiting and it'll be damned if they do and damned if they don't.

I think despite Dave's cancer battle Megadeth are right on that cusp. Fans gave Dave a bit of a break because of his illness but that is wearing a bit thin now and if they don't get something new out soon any momentum they had with Dystopia will be lost. I think Dave knows this and that's also why he's not just working hard on the album but working hard on the PR.

Anthrax haven't had the illness excuse (which is good for them), but they really haven't had any other excuse. If they keep delaying things it really will be a case of only die hard fan will remember them, or care enough to buy their album. I think it's a genuine risk any band faces if they don't keep themselves at the forefront of fans minds, there is too many other bands out there for some people to care about a band that doesn't produce when they say they will.
