AS are another band I don't expect any big changes from. They do what they do well and they have written some great stuff over the years but they are one of those bands that changes very little from album to album.

My guess is that NB acquired the rights to the DA Enigma releases and want them released under their name as an easy money maker that doesn't require a lot of work. (especially considering it's the same or similar to a previous release from 2005).

But you're right any label could do it. I'd buy the first four Testament albums in a decent package to replace some aging tapes. For someone who doesn't own the first four albums this is a pretty good package (if priced right). There isn't much by way of extra or bonus stuff but again if it's priced right it's a good package to give people who don't know of where DA came from. Frolic Through the Park and Ultra-violence are brilliant albums.

I don't know enough about them, but it appears they gave up on DA after 2 albums, then Act III was on Geffen and then they moved to NB. Maybe Enigma's contract just expired and there was nothing they could do about the release even if they wanted too.

I haven't gotten through the whole thing yet because I'm watching a movie. But it'd be really cool if Chuck did stick to the diet and get back into battle mode. Thirty pounds so far is pretty damn good!

He also says :
“Children of the Next Level” always stood out to me, one of my favorites. It’s just one of the first ones we wrote. One of the first we wrote lyrics & hooks for and was always solid throughout the entire writing process. I thought that one could’ve really been right off ‘The Brotherhood of the Snake’ record as far as the vibe of the music. Also, the lyrical content. Ya know, it’s kind of futuristic, about alien life, stuff like that. Honestly, that one that stood out and I thought that was the direction the record was going to take but then Eric (Peterson) came out of left field with these totally insane riffs that were really challenging. So, it definitely took a different direction.


That relates to something I feel a little bit about some of the songs on the album.
Some of those songs are really aggressive but the vocals are still pretty melodic almost like he didn't want to let go of that initial course.
I really think a few of the songs could really use some more attack vocally and less hooky melody. I think he does a pretty vicious job on Curse Of Osiris

Chuck looks like he's in pretty good shape for a big man, he needs to offer his diet to Zetro.

I still prefer Chuck being more melodic, I don't mind the aggression and I don't mind him getting angry but I think his vocals are much better clean than they are growling. I hadn't really thought about how different Children was to the rest of the album but now I think about it I do agree with him. I like Children Of The Next Level but it's almost like it's off a different album, the cartoon video for the song doesn't help that either.

Oh for sure I think Chucks in fairly good shape. But if he wants to get into destroyer mode good for him! I think he'll have more energy and be more active on stage.

Don't get me wrong I like his melodic voice. I like all their clean songs. but for me there's a time and a place. If you've got a hooky melodic song, cool. But if the music's thrashin, for me it's better served being full on.
And no the video is a big disappointment lol. We probably won't get another one either

I'm a bit worried about someone Chuck's size going into destroyer mode.

I think I just overdid the death metal growl in the 90's when I was listening to bands like Death, Morbid Angel and Obituary daily and seeing local DM gigs several times a week. I'm a bit picky about where I want to hear my growly stuff now days.

Obituary have made a big series with animated video clips like Children, but theirs are more funny, pick the shit out of each other fun, than Testament's effort.

Yeah that might be the opposite effect on me because I never really listened to bands with those kinds of vocals. Not too much anyway.

The growl has been overused for years, but when shitty core bands started to use it I knew it was time to be very selective with the vocalists.

Well I guess that's why I like Chuck's so much. He's got actual power and tone in his growls and they sound evil as hell.
He doesn't get enough credit. People say he started using it with Dog Faced Gods. But really he's been using it since the first album in 87, including Reign Of Terror. Just not for full songs.
He's actually a little bit of a pioneer in it. At least in Thrash.
