The what's going on in Thrash thread

Now that I'm all growed up and allowed to watch gross videos I'll move on to something else.

I listened to that Wreck-Defy EP this morning and they really haven't improved. I know it's only 4 cover songs but just not all there. It's one of the most uninspiring versions of Born To Be Wild I have ever heard. Working For The Weekend is okay but really nothing worth recording. Meanwhile Run To You and Little Bones are both very average.

The music itself, despite not being original, is not bad, but the vocals still don't really suit the band, they'd sound like they'd be better suited to a softer band, and the album sounds over produced, kind of like they wanted a metal band to sound flashy like 80/90's pop.

Overall I'm going to keep hoping the new album will reach the heights the previous ones showed potential to reach but if this EP is anything to go by I'm going to be disappointed.
Sigh. Well that doesn't sound so good at all. C'mon Greg! Get into a good band!

Yeah it's not great for Greg, the band really does have potential and I thought the new line up might have helped that but while I remain hopeful for an album of original material (rather than just a covers EP) it does appear Greg is once again just the hired help.

My kid suggested it...make me wonder what she's been watching!
Actually it doesn't really considering we watched Suicide Squad together last night
Hahaha. :)

I watched that the other night. And while Edris is a step up from Will Smith I didn't like the movie that much other than a few parts.
It seemed almost like one long music video with a lot of scenes that really didn't need to be there and had nothing to do with the story.
There was also a lil bit of Marvel ripoff. The shark was cool lol.
I actually like the first one better

There was some good one liners throughout the movie but overall I haven't been overly impressed with either Suicide Squad. I love Margot, (she's a cute Aussie what is not to love!) and while I like her attitude as Harley I don't think the role has been that good over all. Sly Stone as the shark was funny stupid and how he still wanted more num nums after the starfish was killed is beyond me! The characters were generally stupidly funny but Jon Cena's hat takes the cake for stupid. I want to see him wrestle in it!

Seems like a weird choice of covers.

Yeah it kind of is. Born To Be Wild might have once been the go to cover for metal bands, or hard rock bands but that time is over, no one's doing it now. I understand the need to be different, I understand that some bands like to pick local bands for covers, but it's definitely an odd set.

As much as I'm not a huge fan of covers albums Crisix did a good one for the bay area thrash bands, but the best one I've heard for a long time is Aussie band Lord. Lord Tim's covers album pretty much blows away 18 out of 23 tracks of different songs from dance to metal.

Oh yeah, she's hot. I agree about the character. The animated Harley has a lot better lines lol. Sly was funny as the shark. Ugh why Jon Cena? I mean he was ok. But why?

Yeah the animated version is a lot better.
I'm starting to think Cena is a good dumbass character, never a star, always in the background taking up space.

Careful, according to Discogs there was a 2018 edition which was licenced to Metal Blade but released by some Brazillian label. It had 15 or something tracks on it but Howe only sung on the first 10, which was the Breaking Point album. The rest are the songs are off the 1986 release he didn't sing on.

That sounds like the one I'm looking at.And I was wondering about that other disc. At the price it still may be worth it it's $16.99 plus $9 for shipping. And wouldn't get here until October. I'm just not sure about ordering from Brazil. Why the hell doesn't Metal Blade release it for the rest of us?!
Stuff like this is so frustrating. True our shipping is pretty reasonable (usually) but it seems like the rest of world gets cooler stuff than us :).

From what I can see on Discogs it's not a Metal Blade release. The Brazilian label (starts with "U" but I can't remember the name), would have paid MB a fee to release it on their local market. Like A Best Of CD

Hmm. It does have the Metal Blade logo on the back...oh here's what it says.

First Cd released by this awesome US Power / Thrash Metal band. Official version licensed to Brazil by Metal Blade. Special 30yrs Anniversary Edition . Released by Urubuz Records LIMITED PRESS!!

It says first cd here. but it's both.

Yeah the back covers says "Under Licence from" above the MB logo.
The EP came out in 86 with someone named Julian Mendez, who is also the current singer.

We get albums like this all the time here in OZ, mostly they used to be sold at places like Target, but now days they are a bit more refined and they have fancy titles like "The Platinum collection" because the albums went platinum or something silly like that. They are usually in those shitty cardboard covers and have no booklets or anything. Some nothing company pays a licence fee to release the music and they release it usually in the cheapest form possible just to make money.

My guess is you'll get exactly what it says, but it's not an official release, kind of like getting a mate to do a CDR copy and printing the cover, only on a better scale.

Oh I remember those cd's when we still had Media Play. Maybe even at Bestbuy. I remember seeing Tesla and Queensryche ones. Yeah those weren't that cool looking. Always had the cover art in a small box on it. Oh man I'm glad you said that. and about the cdr. I'm not positive I would have bought it. but I did save it to my wishlist so I might have lol.
I also don't feel like spending more money right now. Or waiting more than a month for a covid covered cd. ...:erk:...:p
